During the Meiji era, when Kobe opened its port to foreign trade, many foreigners visited Arima Onsen. They also visited the renowned autumn foliage spot "Kiyomizu-dera," which later became a foreigner-exclusive hotel called "Kiyomizu Hotel." The lush green grounds of "Arima Sanso Goshobessho" still retain the sacred atmosphere of that time. Goshobessho was established by Shirobei Kanai XV, the current head of "Tosen Goshobo," Arima Onsen's oldest accommodation. Renowned figures such as Shotaro Hanayagi and Matsutaro Kawaguchi have stayed at our Property numerous times. It is said that Kawaguchi decided on the title of his work "Aizen Katsura" during his stay here, inspired by the giant katsura tree near the Kannon statue.
