A former honjin that once welcomed travelers. Experience a moment wrapped in the warmth of wood and the charm of history, inheriting memories of the Edo period.

It's like opening a giant time capsule. That was the impression when we first entered to begin the restoration of this accommodation. This building once served as a "Honjin," a resting place for the Matsumoto feudal lord traveling to Edo during the Sankin-kotai system. Over 100 years, it has accumulated remnants from various eras, packed tightly within its walls. As we carefully uncovered these layers with the help of local residents, the essence and potential of this accommodation began to reveal themselves. The cultural figures who passed through here, and those who warmly welcomed them with heartfelt hospitality. An old hearth unexpectedly discovered when removing floorboards—when its fire is lit again after all these years, this Honjin will come alive once more. Perhaps this space has been waiting for someone all along. The aesthetic sensibility housed within this building inspires our creativity.Dialogue & Inspiration A place to gather around the fire and share stories together.

A restored traditional house in a remote village where you can experience nostalgic Japanese living.

The accommodation at Maruyama Village is a 150-year-old traditional house that has been newly renovated and refurbished as a "Property." The "village" lifestyle has changed with the times, but the "scenery" here remains unchanged, just as it was in the past. There is something here that cannot be felt in modern urban life. In the city, "change" is often perceived as "disappearance," and we are living in an era where people are losing interest in what has been lost. At Maruyama, "what remains unchanged amidst change" is still here. If you feel that you have "forgotten something" in the midst of modern life, please come to Maruyama to rediscover that "something you may have forgotten." Maruyama Village is neither a formal Hotel nor a luxurious Ryokan. It is a place where, during a long journey, you might feel drawn to the lights glowing in the twilight. A place where you feel like saying, "I'm home," and where the hospitality conveys a heartfelt "Welcome back." We sincerely look forward to welcoming you "home."
