Hasedera Temple is a beautiful place throughout the year with peonies, hydrangeas, autumn leaves, winter peonies, and cherry blossoms. We especially recommend participating in the "Morning Service" at Hasedera Temple for a spiritual experience. Located on the expansive grounds of Mount Nagara's hillside in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, is Enryakuji Temple (Miidera), boasting a 1,300-year history. Since the Heian period, it has been regarded as one of the four great temples alongside Todai-ji, Kofuku-ji, and Enryaku-ji. The temple holds 64 national treasures and 720 important cultural properties and has historical ties with notable warlords such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Mouri Terumoto. Within the grounds of Miidera stands "Myogon-in," a structure with over 400 years of history that has recently served an essential role as a monk's quarters. Koyasan Jokiin, where the Jizodo Hall was completed in 2001, is a temple themed around "healing." The large communal bath "Jizo-yu" has been renovated, and the temple offers a shukubo (temple lodging) experience. Some special rooms do not have private baths, and the communal bath is available from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM (4:00 PM to 9:30 PM in December). Additionally, the temple's vegetarian cuisine emphasizes the seasonal essence and the esoteric Buddhist principles of "Five Methods, Five Tastes, and Five Colors," utilizing ingredients to their fullest. Guests can enjoy dishes crafted with care, featuring five types of seasoning, cooking methods, and color arrangements.
