About 90 minutes by car from Tokyo, this is a traditional Japanese farmhouse over 100 years old in the Nagasa area of Kamogawa City, Chiba, renovated by MUJI.The plasterwork was crafted by Shuhei-gumi, and the sliding doors (fusuma), inspired by Kamogawa’s nature, were designed by Noda Print Studio.Kamogawa, Chiba—home to Oyama Senmaida, the terraced rice fields closest to Tokyo—offers a sweeping rural landscape often called Japan’s original scenery. Nestled between forested hills and open plains, it preserves a satoyama way of life lived alongside trees, wildflowers, birds, and many other creatures.To help you fully enjoy the everyday life of this nostalgic place, a new local hub has been created with experiences centered on food and farming.

In July 1988, Lodge Azumino Yujin opened in a corner of the forest of Suzurei Hill in Azumino, nestled among the red pine and oak woods spreading across the foothills of the Northern Alps. Since my first solo trip during high school, I have visited various places, met many people, and had countless experiences... When I first traveled to Hokkaido, I encountered people living simply and generously amidst the vast nature. Experiencing a world completely different from the hustle and bustle of the city where I grew up, I was struck by culture shock and began to dream of one day living leisurely in a land rich in nature. My first encounter with Azumino was when I traveled to Kamikochi and Norikura and happened to stay at a vacant Property. Since then, it has become a place where I feel at ease without reason, a place I visit whenever I have time, doing nothing but relaxing and idling away... Around that time, I read in a book about people living in the forested areas of Canada, cutting trees and building cabins with them, known as log houses. With a passion for authentic Canadian log houses, a love for wood, a dedication to Azumino, and a belief in how people should live to be true to themselves, I continue to move forward at my own pace with these thoughts in my heart.

On a 3,000 tsubo site, there are nine rooms in total: a detached Japanese-style room relocated from an old private house, a standalone detached Japanese-style room, and main building Japanese-Western style rooms. This is a 250-year-old property where you can enjoy high-quality hot springs and seasonal flavors amidst nature. Please indulge in the "Bijin no Yu" of Arifuku Onsen, which boasts one of Japan's finest spring qualities that has been flowing for 1,300 years continuously, along with authentic kaiseki cuisine featuring carefully selected fresh seafood and local organic vegetables rich in seasonal flavors. With various countryside experience programs available, both children and adults can enjoy a nostalgic hometown experience. Kaya The Kaya building accommodates from 4 to a maximum of 15 guests. This solid structure, with its 200-year history, has been fully renovated. It features an outdoor terrace and a large kitchen perfect for group enjoyment, as well as a spacious bathroom with a hinoki cypress bathtub. To accommodate larger groups, there are two bathrooms and two toilets. As part of the glamping style, the large terrace connected to the kitchen is equipped with tables, chairs, and Snow Peak BBQ equipment, allowing guests to enjoy outdoor dining while having a BBQ. At Kaya, you can experience cooking rice in a traditional kamado stove, gathering around the irori hearth for conversations, and many other activities. Kura The Kura building accommodates from 2 to a maximum of 4 guests. Designed by renowned architect Yoshifumi Nakamura, this Property is the only one of its kind in the Kanto region. The delicate and comfortable space, characteristic of Nakamura's approach to designing architecture as if crafting furniture, warmly welcomes visitors. Outside, there is an open-air bath, and the covered terrace is equipped with Snow Peak items for glamping. Enjoy a relaxing time under the starry sky.
