"Shioun" is a retro-modern Onsen Property with only 7 Rooms, located right in front of Kawazu Beach. As a sister Property to "Narashinonosato Gyokusui" and "Omuro no Mori Gyokusui," it was newly renovated and reopened in September 2022. All Rooms are equipped with ocean-view open-air baths, and we have maintained the tradition of Onsen water directly sourced from the spring and temperature control by our dedicated Onsen caretaker, a commitment upheld since the founding of Gyokusui over a century ago. For dinner, we offer Japanese kaiseki cuisine that delights both the eyes and the palate. For breakfast, we prepare Western-style dishes using seasonal ingredients from Izu. Our 8,000-tsubo garden, begun by my great-grandfather in the early Showa era, is surrounded by trees over 100 years old and is a celebrated spot in Otaru, with 200 cherry trees in full bloom in early May. From late May through June, wisteria trellises and azaleas follow, and in summer you can enjoy viburnum snowballs, hydrangeas, and carefully tended roses. I especially love the autumn foliage in late October, and the deep winter snow that transforms everything into a pure white landscape is equally refreshing for the soul.
