Our signature onsen with natural hot spring water is available not only in the large public bath but also in every guest room. Dinner features a full-course French cuisine prepared by an experienced chef using seasonal ingredients from Shinshu, complemented by wines recommended by our sommelier. In the first year of Ansei (1854), the founder of our Property, Iwakuniya Sobei, received permission from the magistrate's office to develop the area. He built a bridge over the Momiji River in front of the Property and established a teahouse by the stream as a resting place for travelers. This marked the beginning of "Miyajima no Yado Iwaso." Later, the bustling popularity continued, and the Property officially opened as a Ryokan in the early Meiji period. The main entrance building dates back to 1892 (Meiji 25), and the lobby was constructed during renovations in 1981 (Showa 56). Today, we draw natural Onsen, a rarity on the island, and offer accommodations in the main building, new building, and detached rooms. As a Ryokan nestled within a national park, we strive daily to ensure our guests can relax and enjoy their stay.

Taishoya Shiiba Sansou is a Property nestled in the mountainous region of Shiiba, surrounded by the majestic nature of Ureshino. You can enjoy the ever-changing scenery up close. The murmuring of the nearby stream reaches the Room, and if you listen carefully, you can hear the sounds of insects. Looking out the window, you will see wildflowers adding vibrant colors. Please enjoy the beautiful four seasons of Shiiba created by nature.

Shuzenji, where Shuzenji Onsen Yukaido Kikuya is located, is a historic Onsen town steeped in legends related to Kobo Daishi. The current Kikuya was once referred to as an annex. It is said that there was also a three-story main building at the time. Even the renowned author Natsume Soseki stayed in the main building. Back then, Kikuya owned approximately 40 to 45 cho (hectares) of forest land, and there were generations of mountain keepers. Additionally, there were always about 20 craftsmen, including gardeners, plasterers, and carpenters. At that time, many landscaping projects were undertaken, such as creating rest areas for guests who stayed for extended periods, which required such a workforce. During the era of the main building, there was a grand banquet hall called Kikuya Sanso, boasting an astonishing number of tatami mats.

Perched 60 meters above sea level on the heights of Hiraiso Cape, surrounded by Ishikari Bay, you can take in sweeping views of the endless blue sea and sky, with a full panorama of Otaru Bay and downtown Otaru spread out below. Ginrinso, a historic herring mansion and ryotei-style Accommodation with Onsen, is regarded as a representative example of fishery architecture. It was originally built as the residence of a major fishing magnate in Yoichi, once famed at the base of the Shakotan Peninsula as a prosperous herring fishing ground. Its grand yet elegant presence has only grown more dignified over more than 140 years since its founding, and it is now counted among “Hokkaido’s 100 Cultural Properties.” While preserving its traditional exterior and furnishings as faithfully as possible, we have enhanced our modern Facilities to pursue even greater comfort and functionality.
