“BLANCHETTE” in “Blanchette Nanki-Shirahama” is a coined name that unites three elements: “cachette,” meaning “hideaway” in French; “blanc,” representing Shirahama’s “white”; and “fourchette,” the French word for “fork,” a symbol of fine dining. We chose this name with the hope that you will savor delicious cuisine in an elegant, high-quality setting—like relaxing at a private villa. Skilled in traditional ink-line marking, Heikichi was known locally as “Sumiya no Hei-san” (“Hei from the ink shop”). From this nickname came the house name Tanpei, later renamed “Tanpei,” and it has since been operated as the oldest Accommodation in Tango Town to this day. The spirit of hospitality of “Sumiya no Hei-san” has been passed down through six generations and continues today.
