Shunkouen is a Ryokan and restaurant located on the site of the former samurai residence of the Inagawa family, retainers of the Inaba clan, who were lords of Usuki during the Edo period. Experience the rich history of Usuki through its cuisine. Shunkouen welcomes guests from across the whole country who share a love for fugu (pufferfish). Sharing the unchanging deliciousness of fugu and bringing joy to our guests is our greatest motivation. Just a step away from the bustling onsen town lined with large hotels, Ryokan Ichinomatsu offers a serene traditional Japanese design with all rooms facing a Japanese garden. Built in 1604 by Terumoto Mori after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Hagi flourished as a castle town. Walking through streets that still retain the atmosphere of those times, you can feel the presence of history in the stone walls, white plastered walls, and even in a passing breeze. Turning around, it feels as if over 400 years of history quietly lingers here. At its heart lies "Hagijo Sannomaru Hokumon Yashiki," the only Ryokan within the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Hagi Castle Town." Located on the site of the Yoshiki Mori Clan's Hagi Domain residence, it conveys to this day a harmony of Japanese elegance and Western sophistication.

Located near the Kanmon Strait, this Ryokan offers fresh seafood cuisine. Notably, the specialty fugu dishes available year-round are a highlight. The seawater salt bath drawn from the strait's seabed and the view of the Kanmon Strait from the Room are also popular. Additionally, the interior exudes an exotic atmosphere, including a tea room featuring the throne used by the emperor in the movie "The Last Emperor," adding to its charm.
