Hidden Retreat Shirakawa Gensen Sanso Takefue is set on an expansive 5,000-tsubo property, featuring only 12 private villas and a spa building, along with 30 natural hot spring baths flowing directly from our own sources. All guest rooms are designed in a modern Japanese style and include an irori (traditional sunken hearth), tatami room, and indoor bath. Eight of the villas also offer open-air baths over 5 meters in size, blending beautifully with the surrounding nature. Meals are served in the comfort of your room at the irori for both dinner and breakfast. "Umi no Hotel Shimahana Residence Villa" was born as a villa of Umi no Hotel Shimahana, located in a quiet resort area centered around a yacht harbor on the east coast of Awaji Island, within the Santopia Marina.Among the three villa buildings limited to six groups per day, the Grand Villa building with an Onsen open-air bath is a luxurious space of about 360 square meters that can be exclusively used by just one group of guests. It includes four bedrooms, an open-air bath, a bedrock bath, and a living dining room with a kitchen, all reserved for one group.The Garden Villa building inherits a villa designed by the master of modern Japanese architecture, Kenzo Tange, and has been redesigned by architect Yoshihiro Hashimoto into four guest rooms with Onsen open-air baths.The Glamping Garden & Villa, which had its grand opening in October 2022, offers exclusive use of a two-story villa with an Onsen open-air bath and barrel sauna, as well as a dome-shaped tent for accommodation, all within a site exceeding 900 square meters.Umi no Hotel Shimahana Residence Villa offers a stay that allows you to relax as if you were at home, free from the hassles, just like a sailor visiting a foreign land, dropping anchor and spending a night or two, or like a seabird singing in the sea breeze. A new villa, "Awaji Hamarikyu Besso Takumi," stands on the north side of the classic Japanese resort Awaji Hamarikyu, offering a new charm. Although there are only 17 rooms in total, each room is equipped with an open-air bath filled with Uzushio Onsen Ten no Yu. There are also two loft rooms and rooms up to 111 square meters that can comfortably accommodate three generations of travelers, providing room types to meet various customer needs. The first-floor dining area features a private terrace overlooking the sea and sunset beyond Keino Matsubara, creating an exquisite space. Our 8,000-tsubo garden, begun by my great-grandfather in the early Showa era, is surrounded by trees over 100 years old and is a celebrated spot in Otaru, with 200 cherry trees in full bloom in early May. From late May through June, wisteria trellises and azaleas follow, and in summer you can enjoy viburnum snowballs, hydrangeas, and carefully tended roses. I especially love the autumn foliage in late October, and the deep winter snow that transforms everything into a pure white landscape is equally refreshing for the soul.

The previous Matsusho-so was designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2003 and cherished by many until it was lost to fire in 2021. Despite this loss, with encouragement from numerous supporters, we are proud to announce its revival as the new "Matsusho-so" on March 1, 2024. The building incorporates design elements of the original Matsusho-so while embracing traditional Sukiya architecture that harmonizes with nature. Each room features a private open-air bath overlooking a small garden where guests can enjoy seasonal landscapes. We have created a space that feels "new yet somehow nostalgic."
