I have stayed here many times. Among the Onsen in Zao, the water quality is excellent, and Tsuruya’s baths suit me perfectly. There are also four types of private baths, so you can relax and enjoy them at your own pace. The food is incredibly delicious—every meat dish is generous in portion size and so tasty that you’ll want to eat it again right away. This time I had the Zao beef steak; it was very tender and wonderful with a variety of flavors such as lemon butter and wasabi. I will definitely visit again. A Multiple Night Stay is also recommended.

All the meals were truly delicious! The splendid alfonsino was especially tasty, and I’m glad I added it. This is a traditional Accommodation, but it didn’t feel old at all—everything was spotless and wonderful. The bath was also great. I was able to relax at a leisurely pace and feel refreshed. Thank you very much for accommodating my daughter’s allergies and picky eating. At her earnest request, this was our first mother-and-daughter trip to Hanamaki to experience the world of Kenji Miyazawa. I’m always concerned about her meals when we travel, but thanks to you we were able to relax and enjoy our stay with peace of mind. It is a wonderful Ryokan—so much so that 24 hours in a day didn’t feel like enough. Next time, we would love to visit again with my husband and our other daughter—the whole family. From the moment we arrived until we left, the hospitality was truly wonderful and deeply impressed us. The proprietress quickly remembered my daughter’s name and even came to greet us at dinner, and the staff who served our meal had such warm smiles. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food. We were also able to relax and fully enjoy the Onsen. I was happy that we could take a photo with the proprietress when we checked out. I had wanted, at least once, to step into “Salon Yamasato,” the private lobby lounge of Koshinosato—I've felt that way for the past 10 years. As we reached our 60th birthdays as a couple, we decided to make a Reservation and treat ourselves at this milestone. We truly loved the cuisine, amenities, and atmosphere. I was deeply impressed by the high-quality meals—it was an Accommodation with impeccable hospitality in every way. Also, the macarons and gelato at Kaho’s salon were absolutely top-class delicious—I couldn’t stop eating them. The flavor stayed with me, and I kept wondering what brand they were. It made me strongly want to come back again. Thank you very much. The concierge staff were also incredibly kind—simply wonderful.

The free-flowing, continuously fed Onsen was wonderfully abundant, and each private bath had a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The cuisine was perfect for wine lovers, with rare wines to match. The interior design—and the lamps placed throughout—were all beautifully chosen. Right in front of the Accommodation, there is a row of cherry trees along the riverbank; I can only imagine how stunning the view must be during cherry blossom season. I won’t wait until then—I will definitely return again soon. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

The parking lot is less than a 1-minute walk from the Accommodation, but cars cannot be brought right up to the entrance, so the proprietress came to our car to pick up our luggage. Dinner was the Shige-no-Ie group dining Plan; the hot pot was served with their homemade broth instead of ponzu, and it was very delicious. The soba rice porridge served at breakfast was also very tasty. However, we chose a room with an open-air bath, but perhaps due to its age, one tile had come off and there were quite a few dirty bits of sealant and debris floating in the water, which was disappointing. There were several other spots that felt loose when touched, so I think they should be repaired before more tiles come off. My husband used it and said both the Onsen and the garden were wonderful, but my daughter and I couldn’t use it because it felt unclean, which was unfortunate. All of the staff were easy to talk to and spoke to my daughter every time they saw her; everyone was very friendly and it was great.

The Accommodation, the staff, the meals, and the Onsen were all outstanding. The meat and eggs in particular were unforgettable. If I visit Yufuin again, I will definitely stay here!

From the moment I was picked up, the staff made a great impression, and as soon as I stepped into the Hotel, I was soothed by a wonderful aroma scent. I was shown to a private Room to check in. The Room had a simple design and was very comfortable to stay in. I also enjoyed choosing my favorite scent with the aroma diffuser in the Room. This time I joined the 1-night, 2-day fasting course. Since it wasn’t a water-only fast, I had carrot juice, homemade umeboshi (pickled plum), bancha tea, and more for dinner and again the next morning. After checkout, they treated me to rice porridge, miso soup, handmade umeboshi, hana ingen beans (runner beans), and bancha tea—everything was very satisfying. Personally, the hana ingen beans slowly simmered over two days with beet sugar were so delicious that I couldn’t help asking if they were available for purchase. After check-in, I also received a brown-rice onigiri with umeboshi, which I enjoyed on my long-distance bus ride home. There is no TV in the Room, but Wi‑Fi is available so you can use your smartphone. However, since it was such a good opportunity, I tried not to use my phone during my stay as much as possible. Time flew by as I read health magazines in the lounge with herbal tea in hand; opened the window in my guest room to read my own book while listening to birdsong; and reviewed personal finances that had been put off due to everyday busyness. From the Onsen bath area in the morning, you can see Mt. Asama—the view was truly wonderful. If there’s one thing to mention: since exercise is part of my routine personally, having showers in every Room would have made it even more comfortable by allowing me to rinse off quickly after working out. Other than that minor point, everything exceeded expectations—the staff were lovely throughout—and it was a stay I would definitely like to repeat.

On my way back from a business trip to Tokyo, I planned a visit to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which I had long wanted to see. I stayed one night at an Accommodation in Kinugawa Onsen. I chose it after searching with conditions such as having an in-Room Onsen bath and being reasonably priced. The lobby was well maintained, and the hallways were very clean as well. Our Room had an Onsen bath and two separate rooms, so my wife went to the large public bath while I enjoyed the in-Room bath. The meals were very delicious, and the portions were just right—slightly on the generous side. It was a quiet Accommodation where I could relax in the Onsen, which was wonderful. Many of the staff seemed to be from overseas, but everyone was polite and courteous. One thing that concerned me was that when I opened the window by the in-Room bath, there were quite a few spider webs. Also, insects gathered on the window at night so we couldn’t open it; I thought that if there had been a screen door or similar, we could have opened it. If I have another chance to visit nearby, I would like to stay again.

We stayed for one night in Yayoi in July with our dog as a couple. We’ve stayed at many dog-friendly Accommodations, and this is the best one for us. I especially love sulfur Onsen, and while other dog-friendly Accommodations we’ve stayed at had Onsen, none had sulfur springs. Here, there is also a free-flowing natural hot spring bath in the Room, so we didn’t have to leave our dog waiting to go to a public bath. Even though many places don’t allow dogs in the bathroom area, this Accommodation provided a dog bathtub, shampoo, and towels—I've never stayed anywhere so thoughtful. Our senior large dog kept coming to watch us enjoy the Onsen with curiosity. Just walking through the spilled water from the free-flowing sulfur spring at the washing area turned his rough, cracked paw pads into smooth ones—just like the Reviews said. It’s truly an amazing Onsen. The Imabari bath towel after bathing was fluffy and very comfortable. Since it was a No Meals Included stay, we mainly brought takeout from Nasu restaurants. We also bought Nasu cheese and sausages along with drinks and snacks, and picked up bread and yogurt for breakfast at a nearby shop before heading to the Accommodation. With the best sulfur Onsen, delicious food and drinks from Nasu, a quiet setting, we were able to relax completely. Our dog also seemed very satisfied with the cool highland climate, peaceful greenery-filled surroundings, and private feel without running into other dogs—he looked truly relaxed. All of us were soothed by both nature and the Onsen and went home extremely happy. My husband said he wants to come again in winter too—so we’ll be making another Reservation. This was my second stay. Last time, I stayed during a snowy season, so this time I was able to relax until dinner and fully enjoy the sight of green trees swaying and the gentle calls of evening cicadas from my clean, refined Room. The meals here are delicious both in the morning and in the evening, with plenty of vegetables. Of course, the fish and meat were also excellent—everything was flawless. Above all, the staff’s smiles were wonderful, and their service was attentive and professional, which made me feel truly happy. I will definitely come back to stay again when I have time. This was a wonderful Accommodation that made my first trip to Niigata truly special. While the building and furnishings showed their age, there were programs where we could enjoy local culture, such as shamisen performances and readings about the snow country, and thoughtful amenities like sake lees face packs, Japanese sake, and coffee, making it an Accommodation where we could fully enjoy Yuzawa. All of the staff, as well as the shamisen instructor, were outstanding. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

The hot spring water is simply outstanding. Meeting the friendly and kind proprietress is also one of the highlights. I’ll be back again later this year. Thank you for everything!

I stay at about 10 Onsen Ryokan a year, and this was the best. Even the president came to greet us.

We stayed here as three generations, traveling with my parents-in-law. Before our stay, I contacted the Accommodation twice to ask whether our Rooms could be on the same floor, whether we could dine in the same venue, and about meals for the children. Both times, the staff responded courteously, which made us feel at ease on the day of arrival. As this is a long-established Ryokan, the building is not new, but it has a calm atmosphere that suited my parents-in-law perfectly. Some wallpaper in parts of the Room was peeling, and perhaps due to a special type of wallpaper there was some fuzz that seemed to float around, but overall the Room was relatively clean. The meals were kaiseki-style and just the right amount; our family enjoyed them very much. The staff also explained each dish carefully, making it a truly pleasant dining experience. There was also an excellent selection of alcoholic drinks. When traveling with children we often end up choosing buffet-style dining elsewhere, so it was a great experience for them to enjoy kaiseki cuisine as well. In the lounge, perhaps because it is open to non-staying guests too, all seats were taken at first; once seats became available they called our Room via internal phone so we could use it. We were able to spend relaxing time together as a family. As for the Onsen, there is nothing to complain about—the water quality was wonderful and the large public bath was clean. Overall, I felt that the high level of hospitality from all staff members is what drives guest satisfaction here. The Facility itself may not stand out compared with other Ryokan in every respect, but their hospitality more than makes up for it. Thank you very much.

Our adults-only family stay was wonderful. With spacious beds, a Room featuring an open-air Onsen bath, and a location overlooking Matsuyama Castle, we ended up spending a lot of time relaxing in the Room. The amenities were excellent, including the in-room hair dryer (it was a ReFa), and every detail was thoughtfully arranged to eliminate the little stresses that can come with traveling. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and generously portioned, and we truly felt the warm hospitality throughout our stay. As a souvenir, we bought the diffuser that scented the property; its fresh citrus fragrance still brings back memories of our lovely time here even after returning home. Thank you very much. This is an Accommodation I would highly recommend to anyone planning to visit Dogo Onsen.

The meals, the Onsen, and the service—everything was absolutely satisfying!! The lounge and the puzzle-solving activities were also very enjoyable. I would love to visit again. This was my second stay at this Hotel, and once again everything was perfect. The hospitality is outstanding, and every member of the staff is truly impeccable. The interior design is tasteful, the meals are absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend this Hotel. Having lived abroad for many years and stayed at many top-class Hotels around the world, Kinugawa Kanaya Hotel is one of my favorites.
