The Akakura Kanko Resort Hotel was founded in 1937 (Showa 12). Built by the Okura Zaibatsu following the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel and Kawana Hotel, it is a pioneer among Japan's Resort Hotels. The Hotel is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters, where a sea of clouds can sometimes be seen below. In addition to the timeless charm since its founding, all rooms and the Japanese restaurant were renovated in 2008. Furthermore, on December 12, 2009, a large public bath with open-air baths, a spa salon, and guest rooms with open-air Onsen were newly opened. Our 8,000-tsubo garden, begun by my great-grandfather in the early Showa era, is surrounded by trees over 100 years old and is a celebrated spot in Otaru, with 200 cherry trees in full bloom in early May. From late May through June, wisteria trellises and azaleas follow, and in summer you can enjoy viburnum snowballs, hydrangeas, and carefully tended roses. I especially love the autumn foliage in late October, and the deep winter snow that transforms everything into a pure white landscape is equally refreshing for the soul.

It is located right in front of the Happo-One International Ski Resort, just a one-minute walk to the international lift station visible from the lobby, allowing you to enjoy skiing without stress. The modern, state-of-the-art fireplace and large windows that stretch to the ceiling in the kitchen and living room provide an overwhelming sense of openness, offering stunning seasonal views from all rooms. In the surrounding area, you can enjoy activities such as skiing in winter and trekking or cycling in summer. It is also conveniently located for families, with easy access to the Happo-One Ski Resort "Sakka Gelande" and within walking distance to the charming restaurants and bars in Wadano, making it an ideal base in Hakuba.You can also enjoy a "stay like living" experience in the living-dining area with high-quality flooring.
