There is nothing extravagant here, but we offer a relaxing time with mountain wildflowers, seafood, and heartfelt hospitality. In summer, enjoy a variety of seven natural and rock oyster dishes prepared by skilled oyster shuckers, fresh squid from Kasumi, salt-grilled natural sweetfish from the Yada River, salt-grilled blackthroat seaperch, Tajima beef steak, and in autumn, Kasumi crab, and in winter, Matsuba crab. These seasonal delicacies can be savored in semi-private or private Rooms. Relax in the indoor bath of the large communal bath or the private cypress bath to fully enjoy Shibayama Onsen. Surrounded by pure water, lush green mountains, and the beautiful scenery of each season, the Ryokan is located on a hilltop in Shibayama, offering the best location. The landscape evokes a nostalgic feeling, reminiscent of the countryside you might have visited as a child, with its comfort and simplicity. Located in Osatsu, a town of Ama divers and fishermen south of Toba City, our Property is situated on a 5,000-tsubo estate atop a hill with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, slightly removed from the town. With only 9 rooms available per day, this Property was built by a fisherman owner who spent 20 years envisioning and personally completing the estate. As you walk along the path from the road, you’ll find yourself in a serene world where time flows differently from everyday life. At the bottom of the hill, a private beach awaits. [Dining] We use the finest ingredients from Ise-Shima without reservation, offering the best ingredients of the day. [Onsen] All rooms are equipped with open-air baths. Enjoy the renowned waters of Sakakibara Onsen 24 hours a day. The large communal bath "Yumeyu" is also available. [Relaxation] All rooms feature 12-tatami mat Japanese-style rooms with ocean views, newly renovated in July 2019. We recommend an early check-in to fully enjoy your stay at our Property. In the first year of Ansei (1854), the founder of our Property, Iwakuniya Sobei, received permission from the magistrate's office to develop the area. He built a bridge over the Momiji River in front of the Property and established a teahouse by the stream as a resting place for travelers. This marked the beginning of "Miyajima no Yado Iwaso." Later, the bustling popularity continued, and the Property officially opened as a Ryokan in the early Meiji period. The main entrance building dates back to 1892 (Meiji 25), and the lobby was constructed during renovations in 1981 (Showa 56). Today, we draw natural Onsen, a rarity on the island, and offer accommodations in the main building, new building, and detached rooms. As a Ryokan nestled within a national park, we strive daily to ensure our guests can relax and enjoy their stay.

Our Property, originally built as an inn during the Meiji era, was renovated and reopened in the summer of 2022. The building, over 150 years old, is registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property (Structure), and its hallways, ceilings, and courtyard retain the charm of its original design. Meals are served in the dining area of "Wami no Yado Kakujoro," featuring kaiseki cuisine made with an abundance of seasonal seafood freshly caught near the Atsumi Peninsula. Guests can enjoy delicacies such as natural tiger puffer fish from autumn to winter, natural rock oysters in summer, as well as large clams and Taira shellfish, all showcasing the bounties of the rich fishing grounds.

Facing the Sea of Japan, Tango–Kumihama is a scenic area where many beautiful landscapes remain. A legend has been passed down here. In the Kamakura period, the monk Ippen traveled across The whole country to save people, distributing nembutsu talismans and performing dancing nembutsu. After finishing his preaching in Kyoto and heading toward San’in, he was chanting the nembutsu in Kumihama when clouds suddenly gathered and a blue dragon appeared over the sea. Dragon worship has long been practiced in this region, and it is said that the blue dragon revealed itself before Ippen to form a bond with the nembutsu. Even today, the Sea of Japan as seen from Kumihama retains an air of mystery. Like Ippen once did, you can be embraced by this scenery and find rest here.
