"Kinokawa Onsen Registered Tangible Cultural Property Inn Mikiyama" is a Japanese Ryokan with a 300-year history, located in the heart of the nostalgic Japanese Onsen town, Kinokawa Onsen. Renowned author Naoya Shiga made this Property his regular stay, where his famous short story "At Kinosaki" was born. The wooden architecture, built in 1927 and recognized as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, along with a 300-tsubo Japanese garden, retains its charm. In November 2013, the Property underwent a major renovation of its lobby, dining area, and large public bath, transforming into a modern Japanese Ryokan that blends history with contemporary design.From the Room's veranda, guests can enjoy the changing seasons in the garden, or lose themselves in a book in the library. The old wooden structure, built in the early Showa era, carries both charm and imperfections in equal measure. You may feel a slight draft through the wooden-framed windows, notice low lintels standing proudly, or hear the stairs creak apologetically underfoot. If you can appreciate these as part of its charm, it would bring us great joy and gratitude. As an annex of the historic "Shinshu Yudanaka Onsen Yorozuya," which has been welcoming guests since the Edo Kansei era, this new accommodation will be reborn on March 1, 2024. The previous Matsusho-so was designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2003 and cherished by many until it was lost to fire in 2021. Despite this loss, with encouragement from numerous supporters, we are proud to announce its revival as the new "Matsusho-so" on March 1, 2024. The building incorporates design elements of the original Matsusho-so while embracing traditional Sukiya architecture that harmonizes with nature. Each room features a private open-air bath overlooking a small garden where guests can enjoy seasonal landscapes. We have created a space that feels "new yet somehow nostalgic." Located near Shijo-Omiya, “Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki-dori” is a 23-room Ryokan created by renovating an L-shaped, approx. 1,400 m² alley lined with over 110-year-old machiya townhouses into a single Accommodation. The reception building at the entrance features a deep, distinctly Kyoto-style design, serving not only as the place to welcome guests but also as a small passageway connecting the outside world to the world of “Tsubaki-dori.” Beyond the reception building lies a streetscape reminiscent of an old hanamachi (geisha district), secluded from the outside. As dusk falls, lanterns and floor lanterns light up along the stone-paved street, and “Tsubaki-dori” takes on an elegant glow.
