In "The Tale of Genji," Chapter 18 "Matsukaze," written in the mid-Heian period, a residence near the Oi River serves as the setting. This residence is described as being located "nearby Oigawa," and it is believed to have been modeled after Emperor Kanmu's Oi Imperial Villa.
