Perched 60 meters above sea level on the heights of Hiraiso Cape, surrounded by Ishikari Bay, you can take in sweeping views of the endless blue sea and sky, with a full panorama of Otaru Bay and downtown Otaru spread out below. Ginrinso, a historic herring mansion and ryotei-style Accommodation with Onsen, is regarded as a representative example of fishery architecture. It was originally built as the residence of a major fishing magnate in Yoichi, once famed at the base of the Shakotan Peninsula as a prosperous herring fishing ground. Its grand yet elegant presence has only grown more dignified over more than 140 years since its founding, and it is now counted among “Hokkaido’s 100 Cultural Properties.” While preserving its traditional exterior and furnishings as faithfully as possible, we have enhanced our modern Facilities to pursue even greater comfort and functionality. In the rear garden overlooking the Sea of Japan, we have newly added an open-air rock bath rich in refined charm; reborn under the name “Hiraiso Onsen,” we begin anew as one of Otaru’s newest tourist attractions.

Benesse House, opened in 1992, is an accommodation that integrates a museum and a hotel under the concept of "Coexistence of Nature, Architecture, and Art." The property features four distinct accommodation buildings: "Museum," where you can stay inside the museum; "Oval," offering breathtaking views of the Seto Inland Sea; "Park," surrounded by sea, greenery, and art; and "Beach," enveloped by the sound of gentle waves. This building was originally a village headman's house where ancestors lived since 1842 (Tenpo 13). Within the premises, there is a nagaya-mon gate, main house, rice storehouse, and garden that have been preserved for 200 years. The rice storehouse, designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, was renovated in 2005 to start a French restaurant. The owner is the 8th generation here. With the desire to preserve it unchanged for the next 200 years and to offer a complete hospitality experience to our guests, we have built a property on the mountain behind. Narai-juku, with a 400-year history on the Nakasendo, remains as Japan's longest post town, preserving much of its original charm. Located at the midpoint of the 69 stations of the Nakasendo, this post town flourished with many travelers and was affectionately known as "Narai Senken." As we inherit four historical buildings as the Property BYAKU Narai, we have chosen not to give each building a new name. Instead, we decided to return to the "yago" (traditional house names) passed down from the Edo period, such as calling the sake brewery "Suginomori Shuzo," established in 1793 and a symbol of the town, "Toshiyoshiya." The 16 Rooms are unique and diverse, utilizing the structures of the four historical buildings, each with different layouts and purposes. Immerse yourself in spaces that embrace the historical architecture, and experience the history and countless stories these buildings have witnessed over time.
