Facing the Sea of Japan, Tango–Kumihama is a scenic area where many beautiful landscapes remain. A legend has been passed down here. After finishing his preaching in Kyoto and heading toward San’in, he was chanting the nembutsu in Kumihama when clouds suddenly gathered and a blue dragon appeared over the sea. Dragon worship has long been practiced in this region, and it is said that the blue dragon revealed itself before Ippen to form a bond with the nembutsu.
