This long-established Hotel in Kikuchi Onsen has a retro Showa-era feel, but key areas—such as the wallpaper in the Rooms and dining area—have been renovated. The Wi‑Fi connection was somewhat unstable. The unit bath in our Room also had Onsen water, and the large public bath features free-flowing Onsen, which was very relaxing.

We stayed during the May holidays. We chose this Accommodation because it is known for its excellent food, and it lived up to its reputation with wonderful, lavish dinner and breakfast. The building felt a bit old-fashioned, but it helped us forget everyday life and brought back happy childhood memories.

Despite staying right in the middle of the Obon holiday period, we were able to stay at this price. Dinner had an amazing variety of dishes, and we were very satisfied with both the quantity and the taste. We did notice a few areas where the building and air conditioning could use better upkeep, but overall we were very satisfied. We were also able to watch the Perseid meteor shower from the balcony late at night. We would like to visit again if we have another opportunity.

We checked in after 6:00 p.m. because we came after the Gokase River canoeing experience, but thank you for accommodating dinner service starting at 6:30 p.m. The meal was very delicious, and we were completely satisfied. A small stream also ran right beside our Room, and its sound and atmosphere were very soothing. Next time, I would like to visit during the season when fireflies are dancing. At night we used the indoor bath, and in the morning we used the bathing Facility on site; both had great water quality and were very relaxing. I wasn’t sure whether the indoor bath was fed by Onsen water, but it had a wonderful atmosphere, and since the ceiling was a glass window, it felt like a semi-open-air bath. (It was also fun to see a gecko clinging to the outside of the glass.)

I stayed here again for the first time in a year with my sister and my 95-year-old mother. We requested the same top-floor Room as last year, with a private bath. The bath is filled with Onsen water, and since my mother’s legs have weakened and she can’t go to the large public bath, our main purpose was to let her soak in the Onsen. Another highlight is the wonderful service from the female staff at the dining venue—warm, pleasant, and truly excellent. The meals are of course delicious too (haha)! The only drawback is that the lounge in the first-floor lobby is not barrier-free. It would be perfect if there were a ramp.

While visiting Kamikochi, we decided to extend our trip to the Kisoji area and made a last-minute Reservation. It was a small Accommodation, but it had a lovely atmosphere, and we enjoyed the bath several times. The sukiyaki beef at dinner was delicious. We also enjoyed the Kisoji area, and it turned into a wonderful trip.

I’ve stayed here several times. Although some of the Facility is aging, the inside of the dome is kept very clean and well maintained, so I’m always satisfied. The food is also delicious. I’ll be back again.

The room was spotless down to every corner, and it felt wonderfully clean and comfortable. There was a complimentary ochazuke service in the lobby from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM, but when I went to have some after going out for drinks, it had already been put away by 11:00 PM (sadly). Since it’s free, I can’t really complain (lol). They also offer complimentary morning curry, but you need to make a Reservation by 9:00 PM the night before. It was very delicious. This is a Hotel I’d love to stay at again.

Everyone at the Accommodation was friendly and easygoing, and the bath was great. It was also my first time having a meal in front of the entrance while enjoying the outdoor scenery. If I have another chance, I’ll be happy to stay again. It was a shame I couldn’t have draft beer.

We stayed in the log cabin. It is fairly old and a bit wobbly in places. Because it was the season (hot and humid), there were quite a few insects, but insect spray was provided, so it wasn’t inconvenient. The futons were very comfortable, and our whole family slept soundly. (I was woken up before 5 a.m. by a loud chorus of cicadas.) In addition to the Onsen, we were able to fully enjoy the great outdoors and truly relax. When you contacted us about our forgotten item, I was traveling and couldn’t hear well, so I feel I may not have responded properly. I’m very sorry. I asked for it to be sent cash on delivery, but you kindly sent it prepaid instead—I’m sorry for the trouble you went to as well as for that. Breakfast was more than enough, and the simmered dishes were truly delicious! Thank you very much for everything. We would love to stay again.

This was our second stay. The first time was in autumn, and this time we visited during the beautiful season of fresh greenery, which made it even more appealing. Above all, the food is delicious—we were truly impressed. The Ryokan is quiet and relaxing, so you can unwind at a leisurely pace. Although we love traveling, we rarely return to the same Accommodation, but we would definitely like to stay at Nakamuraya again.

We stayed as a couple in a 6-tatami Room with No Meals Included. The hostess apologized several times for the Room being small, but we made the Reservation knowing that, so it was not an issue at all. We were able to use the private bath smoothly, and it was refreshing to sleep in a space unlike anything we experience in everyday life. If we are nearby again and want to keep costs down, we will stay with you again. Thank you very much.

This Hotel is located on a mountain. It offers stunning views with the distant sea in sight. As we stayed on a weekday, it felt like we had the place to ourselves.

They upgraded us to a Room with an open-air bath. The food was outstanding, and the bath and Room were also excellent. And it was wonderful to meet the lovely proprietress. We would love to visit again.

We stayed here with a couple of friends on the middle day of a three-day holiday weekend. The exterior felt a bit old, but the Room had been well renovated and was clean. In addition to the large public bath, there are six private open-air baths that can be locked, including one beside the gorge.\nWe were able to forget about everyday life and truly enjoy our time as a couple.\nAlthough it is a large Ryokan, it feels like a family-run place and has a warm atmosphere. We plan to stay again.

The room had been renovated and was very comfortable. The open-air bath was a good size and very enjoyable. Above all, the quality of the hot spring water was excellent. Dinner felt a bit too plentiful. The yakiniku was charcoal-grilled, but the indoor ventilation wasn’t strong enough, so the room filled with smoke and it was quite difficult; I would have preferred options like grilling in the kitchen or teppanyaki-style cooking on a ceramic plate with solid fuel. I didn’t expect much sashimi in Yufuin, and at my age I’m tired of typical Japanese kaiseki dishes such as chawanmushi and tempura.

We stayed as a family of four, and the kids were thrilled—they’re already saying they want to come again in winter. The meals were delicious and so plentiful that we felt bad leaving any behind. Drinks were all-you-can-drink, and the ice-cold draft beer was fantastic. The kids also enjoyed making their own original drinks. We also loved being able to enjoy the free-flowing Onsen anytime, and went in many times. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great so we couldn’t see the stars, but we’d like to stay again next time to enjoy the night sky.

This is my regular Accommodation when traveling to the Yaeyama Islands. The building is old, but the Room is clean. It’s a bit of a walk from the remote island terminal, but there are convenience stores, Yurateiku, and restaurants nearby, which makes it very convenient. I arrived earlier than expected this time, but they let me check in right away as soon as the cleaning was finished. I wasn’t feeling well, so it was a big help.

I made a Reservation for one night with breakfast included. Unfortunately, the room was on the mountain side and did not have an ocean view, but breakfast was wonderful while dining with a view of the sea. I was also able to relax in the large public bath while looking out over the ocean. Even if you come empty-handed, you can borrow a fishing rod and enjoy fishing. If you want to buy bait, you would normally need to go to a nearby tackle shop, but it was already closed, so the Hotel staff kindly prepared bait for us and we were able to enjoy fishing the next morning. Thank you very much to all the staff.

A standard service offered throughout the whole country. I was able to relax and rest my body at a very leisurely pace.
