Stayed for 2 nights in December. We were looking for a pet-friendly detached house and found this place. It’s a three-story building: the first floor is a covered parking area (very convenient as we had lots of luggage!), the second floor has the living-dining area, bathroom, and toilet, and the third floor has bedrooms and a terrace. The property still had that new construction smell. Although it’s pet-friendly, there was no dog odor at all! The appliances were new and clean. However, some areas like gaps around the washing machine could have been cleaned more thoroughly. The surrounding area is not near any major tourist spots, so it was very quiet and comfortable at night. We even saw the sunrise over the ocean right in front of us! We stayed with our dog, who was allowed to roam freely indoors with diapers on (though not on beds). They also provided items like pee pads for pets, which we really appreciated. One minor inconvenience was that there were no instruction manuals for some appliances or fixtures; we struggled to figure out how to use certain things or troubleshoot when an error sound came from the washer-dryer combo—ended up searching online using our phones. A file with manuals would be helpful in such cases. The staff responded promptly to our email inquiries before arrival, which gave us peace of mind during our stay. We’ll definitely stay here again when visiting Awaji Island! Thank you very much!

This was my first stay. Even in an everyday setting, the Onsen and sauna are right in front of you, and you can use them anytime you feel like it. The staff’s service was just the right level—in a good way. It truly was a stress-free Accommodation. There was nothing to worry about, so I relaxed a little too much and didn’t quite get fully refreshed. I’d like to come back soon for another reset. It was a wonderful Accommodation. True to the meaning of an auberge, the full-course dinner and the breakfast are exquisite. The tableware, flowers, furnishings, and above all the madam and the chef’s son made it even more special, allowing us to spend a truly wonderful and enriching time. Google Maps navigation led us onto an unexpectedly difficult road to reach the Accommodation, but from the warm welcome by the madam until our departure, our whole family was deeply moved by their heartfelt hospitality. This is an unforgettable Accommodation we would love to visit again in a different season.

We booked this stay because the Reviews were good. The staff were very welcoming, and we felt at ease from check-in. The Room was clean, and above all, the meals were delicious! (However, for guests in their 20s, the portions might feel a bit small...) Personally, I really enjoyed the campfire. The only issue was that there are a lot of stink bugs at night—they fly in constantly while you’re having a BBQ. It’s understandable in such a natural setting, but providing bug spray or hanging insect repellents for tents would make it even more comfortable.

I stayed for one night with breakfast included. Both the exterior and the room were very clean and quiet, so I had a comfortable stay. Everything at breakfast was delicious, and I was very satisfied!

The meals were excellent, and I could tell they put effort into serving different dishes each day. The bath is quite hot, so you may want to add cold water as you soak, but it truly warms you to the core. Because it’s an Accommodation in a very rural area, there were few guests and I was able to relax completely. I would love to visit again.

I stayed here for the first time last year and it was wonderful, so I chose it again this time. The night before my stay, the hostess called to say they had caught some excellent sea urchin and asked if I would like to add it, so I did. I’ve eaten sea urchin in many places over the past 58 years, but this was the best in every way—sweetness, aroma, and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The horse mackerel at breakfast was also delicious and nicely fatty. When I stay in Ashibe again, I would love to return.

We were worried right after the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, but the west coast of Amakusa was unaffected, and my spouse and I were able to travel there safely. The Accommodation building itself is old, with no elevator and simple facilities, but it was kept clean. The staff—especially the owner—were warm and welcoming, so we had a very pleasant stay. Even though the price was low, the meals were far more luxurious than we expected, and every dish was delicious! Because of the earthquake’s impact on other guests’ plans, we didn’t run into anyone else at the bath and could relax comfortably. The only reason it isn’t a perfect rating is its age. If you don’t need a luxurious atmosphere in your Room, it’s more than sufficient. It was a very good Accommodation.

My check-in was significantly delayed due to a long wait for a taxi at the airport, but I was warmly welcomed. The Onsen and the service were both excellent. Thank you very much.

I stayed here because I wanted to relax in Kurokawa Onsen. The Accommodation had a calm atmosphere and was very comfortable, so I was able to spend a peaceful time even on my own. The Onsen temperature was just right, and it truly soothed my travel fatigue. The Asuka hot pot I had for dinner was especially memorable. The gently flavored soup, like white miso, was absolutely delicious, and I enjoyed it all the way to the end without getting tired of it. Every dish made with local ingredients was also wonderful, and both my heart and stomach were completely satisfied. All of the staff were warm and welcoming, and I felt comfortable throughout my stay. Thanks to them, I felt refreshed both physically and mentally, making it a memorable solo trip. I would love to come back in a different season. Thank you very much.

This time, he didn’t have the chance to relax in the Room, but he said that if he’d had more time, he would have liked to enjoy a meal and unwind! The bath was wonderful. I was also happy that there was an electric therapy chair. For dinner, it would have been even better if there had been one more small side dish or a salad. The staff cleaned the facilities from early in the morning, so I had a very pleasant stay. The garden was beautiful as well. Thank you very much.

I stayed for two nights to climb Mt. Myoko. As a guest here for hiking, I was most grateful to be able to use the free laundry that dries everything perfectly. Thank you very much. The handsome young owner, who resembles actor Ryohei Otani, provides attentive service with hospitality like a five-star Hotel, and his answers to questions are reassuring. I chose the boxed dinner, and it was generous in portion—more than enough to refuel after the climb. The taste was excellent as well. In particular, the miso soup with thin bamboo shoots (hime-takenoko?) was outstanding. The Onsen is rated higher than Akita’s Nyuto Onsen by Nikkei newspaper, and I completely agree. Soaking in the water made my post-hike fatigue disappear at once. The view from the open-air bath is also amazing! I think this sense of openness is what makes it better than Nyuto Onsen. Next time, I would love to visit during the autumn foliage season.

I stayed here for one night on a touring trip. Since I was traveling by motorcycle, I was worried about sudden thunderstorms, but there was a dedicated bike space at the back of the covered garage, which was very helpful. Although some of the Facility is a bit dated, it was thoroughly cleaned by the female staff, and all the necessary amenities were provided. The female front desk staff also had wonderful smiles and left a great impression. The breakfast area was bright, and the counter seats offered a great view. The bath is not a natural Onsen, but it was comfortable and enjoyable, and bottled beer came with complimentary snacks.

There is an accommodation located just up the hill of Shiroyama at the eastern edge of the grid-like town. The narrow and steep approach road is one-way, so there’s no need to worry about oncoming traffic. Even large buses were able to make their way up. Although the entrance area of the accommodation is narrow, once you unload your luggage, valet service will take care of parking your car. Walking downhill from the accommodation leads to a main tourist spot, and it’s also conveniently close to the station, making it a great base for exploring. The interior is spacious with intricate design details. The staff are kind and attentive in their interactions. The room faces west with no tall trees obstructing the view, offering a wide panorama of the entire town that can be enjoyed both from inside and from the terrace with an open-air bath. (The view may vary depending on room orientation.) The private open-air bath in each room maintains an ideal temperature all day and night; it’s made of stone and spacious enough for a family to enjoy together. A shower room is conveniently adjacent. On our stay date, fireworks lit up Takayama city, which we watched for about an hour while leaning against the terrace railing. Meals are served in semi-private booth-style seating with sunken kotatsu tables. A quiet group of Western guests dined together in a large hall nearby.

The rooms are kept clean. Amenities can be taken to the guest room as needed, which is efficient and helps prevent misuse by some guests. There is also a gym, and a sauna is available by Reservation. There are no notable downsides. Most guests are from abroad, but recent travelers seem to study Japanese customs beforehand, so unusual behavior causing discomfort to others has become less common.

On the morning of the 24th, I searched for and booked a Hotel with a large public bath nearby so I could watch the Gion Festival yamahoko “tsujimawashi” at Kawaramachi Oike. It was absolutely the right choice! From the subtly Kyoto-style entrance, everything felt welcoming—especially the front desk staff, whose excellent service instantly eased my fatigue from traveling in extreme heat. I was satisfied as soon as I entered the Room. It’s a take-off-your-shoes style, and the clean Room along with its layout and furnishings made it feel like coming home. Having all water facilities grouped together right by the entrance is very convenient. Since there is a large public bath, the shower booth in the Room was more than enough. While many Hotels these days don’t provide sofas or tables, I really appreciated having a long sofa you can lie down on, an armchair-style single sofa, and a table that’s plenty for two people. There are many great restaurants nearby, so it was nice to have a setup that makes takeout easy to enjoy in the Room. The lighting controls were easy to understand, with thoughtful touches like an individual bedside light and options for indirect lighting throughout the Room. The bed was very comfortable—even with sensitive skin and being sensitive to smells, I slept soundly. The linens—especially the pajamas—were high quality and perfectly laundered; cleaning standards were excellent overall, including towels for the large public bath. Water came in stylish Ito En bottle-type containers that were replenished again on the second day and convenient to carry around. Tea, coffee, and black tea were also restocked, and I was happy they even provided wine glasses. At the entrance to/fromthe large public bath area there were two types of vinegar drinks that helped me stay balanced during summer heat. As for views: you can see mountains inthe distance,but right next door is an apartment balcony,and below is temple cemetery grounds,s oI keptthe blinds downand used indirect lighting.(I usedto livein Teramachi,s o cemeteries don’t bother me.)Since windows are frosted glassin springand autumn too,I think it won’t be an issue unless you wantto open them fully.The hospitality at this Hotel more than made upfor it.I didn’t add breakfast,but usedthe attached grillfor lunchand cocktail time,and enjoyed both.I’d love to stay at this Accommodation again.
