It’s a small, quiet Onsen town with very little to walk around and see. The Ryokan is quite old and it’s hard to call it spotless, but it’s a great place to relax in a laid-back rural setting. Each dish is carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and truly delicious—wonderful meals overall. The bath water also has its own distinctive character; I liked it as an Onsen. In summer they keep it at a lukewarm temperature, so you can soak for a long time. The owner and staff were friendly and genuinely kind.
Yahoo!トラベルユー... 8/3/2026We stayed for one night as a couple. I’m not sure if it used to operate as a guesthouse, but there were several shared toilets and washbasins along the exterior corridor. The building itself feels a bit old and retro, but the Room interior and toilets were very clean and well maintained, making it comfortable to stay in. The Onsen was excellent—especially the open-air bath. The water was pleasantly lukewarm, and there was also a reclining bath, so we felt like soaking forever. The meals and Facility were satisfactory. A Shuttle Service is available from Aoki Bus Terminal, but it’s also located right in front of the Tazawa Onsen bus stop on the Aoki Village bus line, so access is very convenient. This is a Ryokan we’d love to stay at again.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Introduction to Onsen Experience the renowned "Sennin-yu (Yamado-yu)," a natural hot spring that has been flowing since the Asuka period, celebrated as a bath of longevity. Discover the famous onsen of Shinanoji, "Tazawa Onsen," and "Ubuyu," known as the "Fertility Bath," which is steeped in an old legend: <Long ago, it is said that a mountain witch came for healing and gave birth to Sakata Kintoki (Kintaro)>. Enjoy the silky smooth texture of this simple sulfur spring while taking in breathtaking mountain views from separate open-air baths for men and women. At night, marvel at a sky full of stars for an unforgettable moment of bliss. Please note that our boiler system is turned off during nighttime hours (10:30 PM – 5:00 AM). The indoor bath's source temperature is 39°C, allowing you to enjoy it as a lukewarm bath during these hours. However, due to the outdoor bath's source temperature being 34°C, we kindly ask guests not to use it after 11:00 PM.
Hot Spring Name: Uchiyu
The indoor bath water, also known as "Onsen of Fertility," is smooth, fine-textured, and exceptionally gentle on the skin. It features a soft and outstanding quality that warms the body and has been renowned since ancient times. This Onsen is also associated with a legend as the birthplace of Sakata Kintoki, famous for the tale of demon-slaying at Mount Oe. "During the Anwa Genroku era, there was a jealous courtesan in Kyoto who lamented her childlessness after separating from her husband. She prayed to heaven and earth with all her might to conceive through spiritual power. Taking on the appearance of an ogress, she traveled across various provinces until she reached Tazawa's land. Shortly after bathing in this Onsen called 'Komochi-yu,' she became pregnant. The child born was none other than Sakata Kintoki, later celebrated as one of Minamoto no Yorimitsu's Four Heavenly Kings." As this legend suggests, it is said to be highly effective for women—those without children may see results by bathing for 21 days (three weeks), while those with insufficient breast milk may benefit within 11 days. This Onsen is also referred to by names such as "Onsen of Fertility," "Komochi-yu," "Harami-yu," or "Nyuyuu-yu."
Hot Spring Name: Sennin-yu (Yamado-yu)
The open-air bath water comes from a pristine natural Onsen spring that has been flowing since the Asuka period, renowned as the "Hot Spring of Longevity." It is said to have been discovered in the late Asuka period by the ascetic monk En no Ozunu. Legend has it that when En no Ozunu tried to test the effects of the Onsen by bathing, he encountered an elderly man with white hair who explained, "Bathing in this Onsen strengthens the body and refreshes the mind as you age. Even at over 200 years old, one can remain like this." This Onsen is also famous for its association with longevity and vitality.
