It was established in 1699 (Genroku 12) as the family temple of Shima Arao, the chief retainer of the Tottori Ikeda Domain. In the manga "A Distant Neighborhood" by Jiro Taniguchi, set in Kurayoshi, it is depicted as a mysterious space where the protagonist experiences time leaps. Recently, the temple has gained popularity as a power spot in Kurayoshi with the "Kyuyou Star Divination Board," a modern adaptation of a secret astrology method. Using birth dates to calculate stars, this giant 8-meter-diameter divination board is used to analyze personality, love, and interpersonal relationships.

Along the Tamagawa River flowing through the city, warehouses and merchant houses from the Edo and Meiji periods are preserved, retaining the atmosphere of old Kurayoshi. Many white-walled warehouses feature white plaster walls, black charred cedar boards, and red tiles, evoking a nostalgic charm. The surrounding area is lined with stylish shops converted from warehouses.
