Located at the eastern foothills of Mount Gozaisho, this onsen village in Mie Prefecture is said to have been discovered by the monk Jōkun in the second year of Yōrō (718) following a revelation from Yakushi Nyorai. It is also known as "Deer Hot Spring" due to the legend of an injured deer healing its wounds.
The Gozaisho Ropeway, spanning 2,161 meters over Mount Gozaisho (1,212m), offers a 12-minute aerial journey. From the windows, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Ise Plain, Ise Bay, and Chita Peninsula. Along the way, you'll see a white steel tower that boasts being the tallest in Japan. Operating hours: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (Winter: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM).
