An Onsen Hotel surrounded by the rich natural beauty of Nanki, with ocean views from every room.

Kamenoi Hotel Kumano Tanabe is located in Tanabe City, the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano pilgrimage routes. Enjoy meals prepared with fresh Kishu seafood and seasonal ingredients from the region’s mild climate and abundant nature. From the top-floor panoramic bath, take in sweeping views of the coastline and the Pacific Ocean, and be captivated by the large sunset sinking behind Motojima Island. While admiring the scenery of Kii-Tanabe, spend a peaceful time accompanied by the scent of the sea.

  • We stopped by on our way back from visiting a family grave at Mount Koya. This was our second stay, and the Onsen was especially relaxing—we truly enjoyed the ocean view right in front of us. The meals were delicious, and we were very happy with the complimentary drinks service in the lounge that started this year. If we have the chance, we would love to visit again for a third or fourth time.

  • Even though it was peak season and nearby Hotels were expensive across the board, this one was reasonably priced! The building is somewhat old, but it’s clean and well maintained. The air conditioning worked fine, and because it’s an older property there’s plenty of space. We could watch the exact moment of sunset from our Room, which was really exciting. The bath area was great too. Some places have a changing room that’s unbearably hot, but here it was pleasantly cool! We went in late at night and had it all to ourselves, which was wonderful. The only downside was that the water was quite hot, so our child couldn’t get in. The food was also very delicious. With a buffet you can’t really relax, so having it brought to us was a big help. It felt a bit Italian as well and looked stylish. The wine at the Awara lounge was excellent—surprisingly so. The dry sparkling wine and both the red and white were all delicious. Everyone at the Hotel was polite and kind; they even asked our toddler who can only eat plain rice, “Would you like some rice?” We’d definitely like to come again—our child loved it too.
