The world-renowned Onsen "Kusatsu Onsen"

The area is enveloped in steam, carrying the distinct scent of sulfur. From seven wooden channels, hot spring water flows with a soothing sound into a radiant basin below. This enchanting scene might make you hum the famous Kusatsu folk song, "Kusatsu is such a wonderful place, come and visit at least once," filling your heart with joy. At Yubatake (Hot Water Field), you can truly feel the essence of Kusatsu, celebrated as one of Japan's "Three Great Hot Springs" and renowned as a "World-Class Onsen." A unique bathing method here is called “Jikan-yu” (timed bathing). After cooling down the high-temperature spring water using large wooden paddles in rhythm to the Kusatsu folk song, bathers enter under the guidance of a leader for exactly three minutes. This traditional method allows people to enjoy natural hot spring water directly from its source safely. You can witness this famous “Yumomi” performance at Netsu-no-Yu, one of Kusatsu’s 18 public baths.
