Maruoka Onsen Takekurabe

Fukui Prefecture/Maruoka Onsen

The four seasons can be compared to the characteristics of bamboo.

The comparison of the four seasons is like a height competition, inspired by the towering Takekura Mountain. In spring, you can enjoy weeping cherry blossoms; in summer, fresh greenery; in autumn, colorful foliage; and in winter, snowy landscapes, showcasing the quintessential scenery of Japan. We offer a "gentle Onsen" that is safe and enjoyable for everyone, from the elderly to small children. Our accommodations include Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, and hybrid Japanese-Western rooms. Our proud cuisine features specialties such as Taniguchiya's fried tofu, Wakasa beef steak, and fresh sashimi. We are conveniently located for access to Eiheiji Temple, the Dinosaur Museum, Ski Jam, Tojinbo Cliffs, Shibamasa World, and Maruoka Castle. Our homemade "Konka Saba" (fermented mackerel) is the number one popular souvenir. Please give it a try. We look forward to welcoming you.

  • After the renovation, the Room was very clean and beautiful. The food was delicious, and the upgraded course had generous portions, so we were very satisfied. The rice from Fukui Prefecture is excellent. I usually eat only about half a bowl at breakfast, but I had a second serving. It was new-season rice and truly delicious. The lobby felt a bit warm. I also soaked in the bath for a long time and couldn’t stop sweating, and when heading back to the Room you have to pass through the lobby, which felt a little hot.It was very quiet and relaxing. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • After dinner, when we stepped outside, it was pitch-dark—only the sounds of insects and the flowing river. The mountain view wrapped in morning mist was truly beautiful, and this Accommodation was incredibly relaxing. Every time, I enjoy looking for a Hotel with Rooms that make my family say “Wow!”—and this time, of course, they did. Seeing the exterior, they said they never expected such a beautiful Room (laugh). Before our stay, we received a phone call about road closures and allergies; everyone was so kind that even before arriving, I already wanted to come back. The meals also reflected the cook’s kindness—everything served warm was freshly made and delicious. We couldn’t finish everything and ended up leaving some of the kamameshi rice. They kindly offered to make rice balls for us, but we were truly too full so we declined. It was very tasty, but there were really so many dishes that if upgrading meant slightly smaller portions and perhaps one more type of sashimi instead, that would be wonderful. The bath was also great, but the shower position was too high, and I wished there had been cold water available after getting out. If it were closer to home, it’s an Accommodation I’d want to visit every year.
