Kamenoi Hotel Akita Yuze

Akita Prefecture/Yuze Onsen

Relax and rejuvenate with the Beauty Hot Spring and Forest Therapy Road.

Yuze Onsen Village stretches along the gorge of the clear Yoneshiro River. Said to have been named for its abundant hot water—so plentiful that it even springs up from the river shallows—this Onsen area is also highly popular as a “beauty bath” thanks to its skin-friendly mineral quality. Selected as one of the New Akita 30 Scenic Views, Yuze Gorge is also certified as a Forest Therapy Road with proven relaxation benefits, attracting guests who visit each year in search of healing. It also offers convenient access to Oyu Stone Circles, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan.”

  • Ever since our first stay two years ago, we’ve loved this place and have been coming back every year for a two-night Multiple Night Stay—three years in a row.It seems seasonal, but they had a festival-style stamp rally for kids, which was a great touch and kept our child happily entertained. It also happens to be our child’s birthday around this time, so celebrating here has become our family tradition. The Onsen temperature, the Room size, and overall layout all feel “just right.” There’s also a late-night tantanmen service we always look forward to—though this time we were too full after dinner to enjoy it, which was a shame! The building seems to have some history, but everything is spotless and well maintained, so it never feels old. Above all, it’s incredibly comfortable—a wonderful Accommodation where our whole family can truly relax. Whenever we go to Akita, this is the only place we choose.

  • I have stayed here several times since the Hime-no-Yu days, and I feel it has improved each time. I stayed for two nights, and the dinner menu was excellent. The breakfast buffet also had a great variety, and I ended up eating too much in the morning. If I had to mention one thing, the late-night soba tantanmen was the red version on both nights—I think it would be better if it changed daily. Also, while the Room seems well maintained with clean wallpaper and such, I noticed a slight odor in the unit bath/toilet.Still, I was glad to be able to stay at a reasonable price during the Obon period. I would like to stay again—thank you in advance.

Trick Art

Trick Art: The Mysterious World of Akita Ranga

Twelve trompe-l’oeil artworks are on display, incorporating the style of “Akita Ranga,” a painting technique born in the Edo period. Naotake Odano was born in Akita during the Edo period as the son of a samurai. Hailing from Kakunodate—known as the “Little Kyoto of Tohoku”—he was inspired by Western paintings and pursued art, developing a distinctive style that introduced unprecedented techniques of perspective and shading. His depiction of Buddha, painted around the age of 17, was skilled enough to be enshrined at a shrine. He is also said to have taught Western painting to Yoshimasa Satake, lord of the Akita Domain at the time, and he is known as one of the artists who created illustrations for the famous “Kaitai Shinsho” (New Book of Anatomy).

Birthplace of Kiritanpo: Kazuno and Its “Beauty Hot Springs”

Yuze Gorge, running through the heart of the Yoneshiro River, is one of the “New 30 Scenic Views of Akita.” The Meiji-era poet Takuboku Ishikawa was deeply moved by this place and left the words, “Kazuno, a land far from heaven, encircled by blue-fenced mountains,” praising its ever-changing scenery through the seasons. Yuze Onsen is an alkaline simple hot spring said to help improve skin troubles such as acne, and is also known as a “beauty bath.” Enjoy the Onsen and our cuisine in a serene Japanese setting.

Yuze Onsen, the Hot Spring of Beauty

The hot spring water is a clear, colorless alkaline spring. It is also known as the “Beauty Bath,” as it is expected to have a soap-like cleansing effect that lifts excess oil from the skin.
