Feel the Zaō breeze in our fully renovated open-air bath and savor 100% free-flowing natural hot spring water.

Sakaiya Mori no Hotel Waldberg has fully renovated its open-air baths for both men and women, adding new reclining baths and waterfall showers. In our Japanese-style rooms with a private bath and toilet, the futon is already laid out so you can relax right away. In addition, our strongly acidic sulfur Onsen (pH 1.8) is gentle on the skin and guests. Enjoy a carefully crafted Japanese kaiseki meal featuring locally sourced ingredients.

  • Compared with many acidic sulfur Onsen that tend to be very hot, this one has a pleasantly lukewarm bath—and even an open-air reclining bath. That was the biggest reason I chose it (I like long, leisurely soaks).Good value and right next to the slopes, which makes skiing easy. The downside is that the Accommodation is a short walk uphill, so it’s not as easy to casually head into town for sightseeing. Also, the adjacent ski area doesn’t offer night skiing, so you’ll need to travel if you want to ski at night. After skiing, the route back down from the slopes can be hard to find; it’s easier to take the Zao Chuo Ropeway down and ride the Nakamori Triple once to get back smoothly.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Open-Air Bath & Outdoor Bath

Open-Air Bath & Outdoor Bath

The open-air Onsen baths were fully renovated in 2017 (men’s) and 2018 (women’s). A reclining bath was added to the men’s open-air bath, and a cascading shower was added to the women’s. Enjoy a relaxing soak while feeling the fresh highland breeze of Zao. [Summer only: late April to late October] The outdoor Onsen bath is located on our mountain grounds, about a 3-minute walk along the river from the Hotel entrance. This free-flowing hot spring draws directly from the source, letting you experience nature up close—birdsongs, insects, rustling trees, and the gentle murmur of the river. As there are no lights, it is available from sunrise to sunset only.

[Notice of Outdoor Open-Air Bath Closure for FY2026]

We regret to inform you that our seasonal open-air bath will be closed for the 2026 summer season. Thank you for your understanding.
