Hotel Japan Shiga, located at 1,700 meters in Ichinose, Shiga Kogen, is an Accommodation where you can fully enjoy nature in every season. Just a 1-minute walk to the ski slopes, you can enjoy outstanding snow for skiing in winter, wild vegetable picking and trekking in spring and summer, and autumn leaf viewing in fall—all year round. All rooms are spacious 14-tatami Japanese-style rooms, offering a relaxing stay. Meals feature a wide variety of dishes that make balanced use of local ingredients. In particular, the authentic yakiniku made with Shinshu beef raised on locally grown apples is a must-try. You can also enjoy displays from our music box doll collection and a pin badge collection from the Nagano Winter Olympics.
It’s still disappointing that the Room toilet does not have a bidet, but using the shared toilets is not an issue. Last year, one of the two shared toilets had a squat-style toilet (unacceptable), but this year both have bidet seats, which is a major improvement. They look like the same new model, so they may have been replaced at the same time.Breakfast and dinner are buffet-style, and it was excellent that there was no overlap in side-dish selections between Day 1 and Day 2. It’s subtle, but you can see the effort.Also, as a small detail, it’s reassuring that drinks in the vending machines are sold at normal prices rather than marked up for a tourist area.

We stayed in a spacious Japanese-Western style room on the 8th floor, perfect for two men, and were fortunate to find parking right in front of the hotel. The building and facilities are not new, but they were very clean, and the staff left a great impression. It has been four years since we switched from Zao to Shiga, but considering the meals and accommodation fees, we discussed making this hotel our choice again next year as we headed home.
