Enjoy a comfortable stay with health and beauty treatments and a variety of Onsen.

Indulge in one of Japan's finest Onsen at a mountain resort near Lake Tazawa. This globally rare Onsen boasts three "Japan's best" features: a strong acidic pH of 1.2 with hydrochloric acid as the main component, a source spring that releases 9,000 liters per minute, and Japan's only natural rock bath, renowned for its therapeutic benefits. Surrounded by beech forests, the Property features a warm, barrier-free design, ensuring a comfortable stay even for elderly guests. Enjoy highly praised meals featuring local specialties such as Akita sake and Hinai chicken. A Property that shines with its comprehensive appeal and pride in its Onsen.

  • In June, Tamagawa Onsen’s hot stone sauna is the best!! Work up a good sweat, then enjoy the Onsen afterward. The refreshing feeling of toxins leaving your body is unbeatable, so I visit a few times a year.

  • This was my third visit to Shin-Tamagawa Onsen, booked through Yahoo Travel. Located in Akita’s secluded retreat area, there was still some lingering snow around the Hotel during my stay, and the mornings and evenings felt a bit chilly. Guests included not only independent travelers but also many large tour groups; most were middle-aged to older visitors, as this is a Hotel aimed at therapeutic stays. Overall, it is an Onsen Accommodation with a very high level of satisfaction in every respect. During this stay, I joined a bus tour organized by the Hotel and enjoyed sightseeing spots centered around Kakunodate. One night and two days feels too short—this is an Onsen best enjoyed over several days at a relaxed pace for therapeutic bathing. I’m sure I’ll be back for a fourth visit.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Onsen

Experience the comprehensive qualities of abundant water, spring quality, benefits, nature, and onsen culture.

At New Tamagawa Onsen, we draw water from the same source as "Tamagawa Onsen." This water is a rare, strongly acidic spring with hydrochloric acid as its main component and contains radium. It promotes natural healing through the low-dose radiation hormesis effect, which has garnered attention in the medical field, helping to revitalize the body. The source boasts the highest single-point water output in Japan, gushing approximately 9,000 liters of spring water per minute from the grand spring (Ōbuki). The sight of it spewing hot water with white steam and sound is truly breathtaking.

Japan's only natural rock bath

The birthplace of Ganbanyoku, "Tamagawa Onsen," is a power spot where you can experience the energy of nature. It is about a 7-minute drive from Shin-Tamagawa Onsen. Along the Tamagawa Onsen Nature Research Path, there are geothermal rock formations. Ganbanyoku, or hot stone therapy, involves absorbing geothermal heat from these rocks into your body. It also contains trace amounts of radiation and abundant negative ions, which are known to promote metabolism and provide pain relief.
