One of Japan’s largest morning markets: Tatehana Wharf Sunday Morning Market
~A Giant Morning Market That Appears Only on Sunday Mornings~
One of Japan’s largest morning markets, held every Sunday from mid-March through December each year. Around 300 vendors set up shop along an approximately 800-meter stretch.
During peak travel season, tens of thousands of visitors come each week—making it one of the biggest morning markets in the country.
You’ll find a wide variety of stalls, from Hachinohe’s renowned seafood to mountain produce, handmade bread, sweets, prepared foods, crafts, and antiques. Local specialties are also available, including Hachinohe Senbei-jiru (rice cracker soup), Hachinohe ramen, June-mochi rice cakes, and Nanbu senbei crackers.
There are unique foods you can only enjoy at the market and souvenirs you won’t find elsewhere—why not stop by at least once?
*Please note: The market is closed on Sundays when the annual Umineko Marathon is held.*
