A private villa in Izu Kogen to enjoy with two fires: an irori hearth and a sauna

Succulent Izu red sea bream, rich with flavor. A mind set free in the sauna. Conversations that never end by the flames. Hiire is a private villa where fire brings out the best in every ingredient. Source Izu ingredients yourself and slowly cook them over a lava stone hearth—an immersive “self-auberge” stay. Hiire FUTO is an airy, standalone villa with an open feel and a refreshing view out to the sea.

  • We stayed with a total of seven guests—five adults and two young children—and everyone was able to relax comfortably throughout our stay. The luxurious, open layout was truly impressive, never once feeling cramped even with this many people.True to the “self auberge” concept, shopping for fresh local ingredients and taking our time cooking them over the lava stone hearth was an exceptional experience. It wasn’t just about cooking—we enjoyed a truly indulgent time gathered around the fire, relaxing and chatting at our own pace. The private sauna was also outstanding; after reaching peak relaxation, the panoramic view of the town from the elevated terrace was breathtaking. The interior design, amenities, and tableware were all thoughtfully curated down to the smallest details, making it feel like one night simply wasn’t enough. Both adults and children were completely satisfied, and we will definitely be back again.

  • We stayed here as two couples (four guests). What impressed us first was the ocean view filling the windows and the irori hearth at the center of the open, airy space. Throughout our stay, we were able to relax and enjoy a luxurious time while gazing at the beautiful sea.We also compared it with photos of Hiire in the same Izu Kogen area, and we preferred FUTO for its bright-toned interior and greater sense of openness. For meals, we ordered one set for four people and supplemented it with ingredients from “Nagaya,” a supermarket near Izu Kogen Station, and “Yamamo Plaza” inside the station. Grilling the set’s meat and dried fish indoors over the irori was a unique experience—different from a typical outdoor BBQ—and it was wonderful to enjoy it comfortably without worrying about weather or time. We also appreciated that smoke was well ventilated around the irori area, so neither smoke nor odors bothered us.We had heard that the sauna’s maximum temperature setting is on the lower side, so we were worried it might feel insufficient. However, once we did self löyly, the heat built up quickly and we were able to sweat thoroughly—more than what the displayed temperature suggested. Being able to enjoy self löyly at our own pace without worrying about others was great, and the sauna stove had an iconic design you don’t often see in typical sauna facilities—an irresistible space for sauna lovers. Also, since I like soaking in a bath after a sauna session, having an indoor bath was a big plus (and it’s Onsen!).The amenities were well stocked.Personally, I loved how comfortable and relaxing the bedding materials felt. With its views, irori hearth, sauna, and Onsen, this Accommodation offered an exceptional escape from everyday life. We all agreed we’d love to come back again—and we definitely hope to stay here again.

Cooking ingredients. Igniting yourself. These two kinds of “hiire” are what a stay at Hiire is all about.

Shop for ingredients around Izu-Kogen Station, then slowly grill them over the lava irori in the center of the living room. Fish cooked with far-infrared heat turns crisp on the outside and moist within. Meat becomes fragrant on the surface while keeping all its juices and flavor sealed inside. Take a bite while it’s piping hot, raise your glass, and grill some more—no schedule, until you’ve had your fill. After dinner, warm yourself up in an Estonian-made sauna and the Onsen. Once your mind and body feel light again, gather around the irori once more. Shop, cook, and savor. You are the chef here.

Meal image
A meal cooked over an open flame at a lava-stone hearth

At the center of the living room is a special irori hearth that heats lava stone and grills with far-infrared rays. Whether you source Izu ingredients yourself or order our Facility-selected ingredient set, enjoy freshly grilled bites at your own pace—until you’re fully satisfied.

Sauna
Estonian-made sauna + Onsen

Each cabin is equipped with an authentic Estonian sauna and an Onsen. After tending the fire for your ingredients, tend the fire within yourself. Once refreshed, gather around the hearth again—this is the Hiire way.

In-House Facilities
Equipped with a projector and audio system.

Each building is equipped with a projector and audio system. Perfect for watching a movie after dinner, or for group retreats and workshops.

Himono-ya
Explore the local character of Izu Kogen.
