A private villa in Izu Kogen to enjoy with two fires: an irori hearth and a sauna

Succulent Izu red sea bream, rich with flavor. A mind set free in the sauna. Conversations that never end by the fire. Hiire is a private villa where fire brings out the best in every ingredient. Source local ingredients from Izu yourself and slowly cook them over a lava-stone irori hearth—an immersive “self-auberge” stay. Hiire OMURO is a serene standalone villa with an unobstructed view of Mt. Omuro right in front of you.

  • With its high ceilings, the space felt open and truly luxurious. Both the bath and sauna were spacious, allowing you to relax at your own pace. The sauna also offers self-service löyly, so it heats up properly—an authentic setup that even sauna enthusiasts will be satisfied with.It was also impressive how the concept was consistently carried through to the smallest details, from pajamas and cooking utensils to lighting, reflecting the owner’s careful attention. From the large windows, we enjoyed panoramic views of lush greenery and Mt. Omuro, which were soothing both in the morning and at sunset. For breakfast, we grilled dried fish ourselves; it felt special in a way that’s different from a Ryokan experience, and it was delicious. The space, Facility offerings, and views were all outstanding—an Accommodation we’d love to visit again in a different season.

  • The atmosphere of the space was wonderful, and the irori hearth and sauna felt truly special—an even better stay than expected. The architecture and interior design showed great attention to detail, allowing us to forget everyday life and relax at a leisurely pace.Every meal was genuinely delicious, and we were completely satisfied. That said, one night didn’t feel like quite enough time. An earlier check-in or a two-night stay would make it easier to fully enjoy everything at a more relaxed pace. Also, having makeup remover among the amenities would be even more convenient.Overall, the space, experiences, and meals were all outstanding—an Accommodation we would definitely love to stay at again!

Cooking ingredients. Igniting yourself. These two kinds of “hiire” are what a stay at Hiire is all about.

Shop for fresh ingredients around Izu-Kogen Station, then slowly grill them over the lava stone irori in the center of the living room. Fish grilled with far-infrared heat turns crisp on the outside and moist within. Meat becomes fragrant on the surface while sealing in its juices. Take a bite while it’s piping hot, raise your glass, and grill some more—no schedule, until you’ve had your fill. After dinner, warm yourself with an Estonian-made sauna and Onsen. When your mind and body feel light again, gather around the irori once more. Shop, cook, and savor. You are the chef here.

A meal cooked over an open flame at a lava-stone hearth

At the center of the living room is a special irori hearth that heats lava stones to grill with far-infrared rays. Whether you source Izu ingredients yourself or order our Facility-selected ingredient set, enjoy freshly grilled bites at your own pace—no schedule, until you’re fully satisfied.

Sauna
Estonian-made Sauna + Onsen
