A Second Home at the Foot of Mount Fuji, Living in Harmony with Nature

SANU 2nd Home is “another home” where your mind and body can truly rest and your senses can open. Step back from the pace of city life, feel nature with all five senses, and live by your own hands—this is your second home. Among the SANU 2nd Home locations across Japan, Kawaguchiko 1st is a base set in gentle greenery at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Tucked away in a quiet forest far from busy roads, it nurtures a rich ecosystem, including naturally growing Japanese pepper trees. The white cabin is an eco-conscious design created to live in harmony with the earth. Inspired by honeycombs, it features a distinctive form and large windows that frame the surrounding landscape. The space comes to life through seasonal views reflected in those windows and wildflowers arranged in the dining room vase. In the morning, quietly grind coffee beans on the terrace as sunlight filters through the trees. In the afternoon, play a seasonal music playlist and let yourself sink into sound. In the evening, toast with natural wine while listening to insects sing. At night, add logs to the fire and lose yourself in thought. How you spend your time is entirely up to you. Find what feels just right for you.

  • We stayed during Golden Week.Even though all the other Rooms were fully booked, we could hardly hear any noise from nearby, and we were able to spend a peaceful time surrounded by the quiet forest.Perhaps it was a season with very few insects, as they didn’t bother us at all, and the Facility was clean and very comfortable.Even the shampoo in the bath had a forest-like scent, and we felt that every detail had been thoughtfully considered.Thank you very much. After reading through all of the Room booklet again, I realized that shared Facilities such as the washing machine were located elsewhere, and I wasn’t sure how to clean up properly after using the campfire. It would be reassuring if you could add a short note on the red paper that was originally inside the fire pit grill saying that cleanup instructions are written in the booklet. Also, since it seemed to assume everything should be returned to its original state, I wasn’t sure how far we needed to go in putting things back—such as dishcloths or used towels. It would feel even more reassuring if there were a note like: “Please place used cloths and towels in the laundry basket.”We would love to stay again. We made wonderful memories with our family.

  • It was a very comfortable stay! All the necessary amenities were provided (reading the guide in advance makes preparation easier), and the accommodation was thoughtfully designed for comfort. Although it was cold outside, the pellet stove warmed up the entire room, making it cozy. Enjoying a night under a sky full of stars with a mug in hand was truly priceless! For guests with dogs, essential amenities like deodorizing spray, towels, and dishes were available, which was very helpful.
