― There is a world that can only be seen by climbing a tree. ― With this thought, we built a small design villa featuring a treehouse that stirs the adventurous spirit of adults. Named -the Cask- after the etymology of the mountain chestnut tree, we hope you can spend a rich time in this space, like in a barrel of wine or whiskey, and carry those memories with you back to your daily life after your stay.

The story of "the Cask"

A meandering river that seems as if it were designed, its banks offering completely different expressions even when side by side. The newly built villa on the grounds of Sumiya Rakusuitei has been designed to enhance the enjoyment of gazing at the river. Compact yet infused with various elements, the architecture is neither purely Japanese nor Western, exuding a mysterious sense of comfort. The Cask began with the architect's desire to create a "treehouse" in a large chestnut tree. In this playful space, enjoy a small adventure that only adults can experience.

Decorations that enhance delightful architecture

Sumiyah the Cask is a small space blending various styles, featuring Japanese antique shoji screens and European doors. For example, through the glass of a shelf adorned with decorative fittings custom-made in Kyoto, you can see a bathroom with a birthday bath, showcasing an eclectic interior design. Rather than opting for minimalism, we have carefully selected items that evoke stories from different countries to enhance the joy and character of this unique living space.

Surrender your body and become a resident of the forest.

The Cask is located where the gently flowing river curves. You can fully enjoy the breeze descending from the mountains along with the water's flow. Climbing the treehouse built on the forest chestnut tree, a favorite of squirrels, you will experience a world unique to this place, surrounded by new winds, sounds, and scents. Let's toast atop the tree with a sense of small adventure.
