A serene and high-quality space woven with history and charm. Accommodation where you can stay in cultural heritage.
"Akagi Accommodation," produced by Kominka Accommodation Ruuf, has opened in the Akagi Mountain area of Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. Seiho Sanso, surrounded by a spacious property and beautiful garden, is an accommodation where you can stay in cultural heritage buildings: a 111-year-old main building and two storehouses that are 147 years old. The main building, originally the villa of a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan, is a historic structure featuring a spacious 40-tatami living room and a private sauna for your relaxation. The two storehouses offer compact yet charming accommodations with both historical and modern design elements. Enjoy special moments while experiencing the rich nature and history of Akagi Mountain.
We stayed over a three-day weekend. It was a luxurious experience to stay in a Tangible Cultural Property. The living room was spacious, and the kids ran around the Roomand watched YouTube on the projector! The adults were able to relax and unwind in the sauna and Onsen. Also, thank you to the staff for being so kind and seeing us off at the end. We’d love to stay again when we visit Gunma.
We stayed for one night as a group of three couples. The first impression upon arrival was the impressive gate and the historic main building. It had an even greater presence than in the photos, giving us a natural sense of having arrived at a special place. The interior was spacious and clean, blending modern facilities with traditional Japanese aesthetics to create a calm atmosphere. The warmth of the wooden design made it very comfortable, allowing us to relax throughout our stay. This time, we chose a No Meals Included Plan with an additional unlimited sauna option. This turned out to be highly satisfying and is something we would definitely recommend. From the hinoki-scented indoor bath to the outdoor cold bath and relaxation chairs, everything was thoughtfully designed for beginners to enjoy as well. We were able to fully experience different atmospheres in the sauna during both night and morning. The staff provided attentive service from check-in to check-out, making our stay worry-free. Communication via iPad was smooth, and it was reassuring that face-to-face assistance was readily available when needed. The kitchen and dining area for self-catering were convenient, with an easy-to-use built-in IH stove. We bought ingredients from a nearby supermarket and enjoyed cooking together as six people; hot pot dishes would also be great during winter. In the garden, we gathered around a campfire and enjoyed handheld fireworks—a unique experience that added an extraordinary touch even for adults. The nights were quiet; listening to insects chirping or birds singing allowed us to sleep deeply—a memorable aspect of our stay. The beds and futons were fluffy and extremely comfortable, ensuring proper rest so we could wake up feeling refreshed in the morning. All my friends unanimously said they wanted to come back again—and I feel exactly the same way! I’d love to revisit during another season or try staying at other accommodations within this trusted group in future visits.
