All rooms offer ocean views. Enjoy a villa stay surrounded by the serene Seto Inland Sea and nature.

"Mimoro" Three villas nestled in a Satoyama landscape overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. All rooms offer ocean views, with some featuring citrus groves of oranges and lemons right before your eyes. The horizon beautifully divides the gentle sea of Setouchi and the blue sky. You can witness the sun and moon rising from the sea during most seasons. A one-minute walk takes you to a sandy beach that feels like your own private retreat. Amidst abundant nature that could overtake the land if left untouched, stands a symbolic Quercus tree. This is not just untouched nature but a place to experience nature as it should be. Welcome to Mimoro.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Panoramic View

mimoro is located in the Matsuo settlement of Kitayama, home to 8 households and 10 residents. The name "mimoro" originates from the Heian period term "御諸," which referred to a sacred place that protects all things. As a remote settlement far from urban areas, its very existence is at risk due to population decline. Over the coming decades, mimoro aims to be a presence that watches over this land and walks alongside it.

Sea
From the peak to the satoyama. From the satoyama to the sea. From the sea to the peak.

At the heart of this cycle lies mimoro. When we first encountered this place, it resembled an abandoned farmland found anywhere in Japan. What does it mean to deliberately build accommodation on land that no one paid attention to? With that question in mind, we have been working on creating this accommodation.

Sea
The satoyama where Mimoro is located features steep slopes as its characteristic terrain.

As a result, it was a place rarely visited by people and prone to becoming abandoned farmland. Building structures here was far from easy. To address this, we chose a design that could be assembled by local craftsmen to improve construction efficiency. Additionally, to make this location sustainable, we utilized materials and building resources that we could source locally whenever possible.

Satoyama
Japan features a unique geography where the sea and mountains are in close proximity, forming an integral part of the country's identity.

By intentionally intervening, humans can create a positive cycle with nature. Based on this idea, trees that do not receive sunlight under large trees are sometimes taken from the mountains and transplanted to satoyama landscapes. Old railway sleepers are repurposed, and stones that were once part of walls are transformed into paths or stairs. Mimoro is a place shaped through these thoughtful efforts over time.

Satoyama
Because the answer is not simple, we aim to take our time to engage with this land and weave a better landscape for the future.

At mimoro, we aim to contribute to the cycle of giving back to the sea and mountains through your stay, becoming a part of the natural flow that thrives in this land.
