A former honjin that once welcomed travelers. Experience a moment wrapped in the warmth of wood and the charm of history, inheriting memories of the Edo period.

It's like opening a giant time capsule. That was the impression when we first entered to begin the restoration of this accommodation. This building once served as a "Honjin," a resting place for the Matsumoto feudal lord traveling to Edo during the Sankin-kotai system. Over 100 years, it has accumulated remnants from various eras, packed tightly within its walls. As we carefully uncovered these layers with the help of local residents, the essence and potential of this accommodation began to reveal themselves. The cultural figures who passed through here, and those who warmly welcomed them with heartfelt hospitality. An old hearth unexpectedly discovered when removing floorboards—when its fire is lit again after all these years, this Honjin will come alive once more. Perhaps this space has been waiting for someone all along. The aesthetic sensibility housed within this building inspires our creativity.     I chose to stay here because I was drawn to the presence of this nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property. With its history as an Edo-period honjin and its dignified atmosphere, it felt like stepping into a beautiful, extraordinary world where time had stood still. What impressed me most was the French course meal made generously with local seasonal ingredients. Every dish was exquisite, bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients, and because each course was carefully explained—along with the chef’s attention to detail and the story behind it—I was able to appreciate it even more deeply. The historic architectural beauty, refined cuisine, and warm hospitality came together in perfect harmony, making for an incomparable luxurious stay that truly satisfied both body and mind. I would love to return again in a different season.

  • Completely satisfied with the delicious food and drinks.

    My wife, our two children, and I stayed here as a family of four. The dinner course was delicious, and the sake recommended by the chef was excellent—I asked a special favor and they kindly let me have some. The breakfast course was also among the top three I’ve ever had. We had a wonderful time as a family and were very satisfied. We will definitely visit again.
