Tachikawa Family’s House, a National Important Cultural Property

A historic and romantic Western-style guesthouse designated as a Hakodate City Scenic Building.

The Western-style building adjacent to the Tachikawa family residence and store, constructed in Meiji 34 (1901) and designated as Hokkaido's first Important Cultural Property in Showa 46 (1971), was expanded in Taisho 4 (1915) by the fourth-generation Tachikawa Zenkichi as a dedicated reception room. The Corinthian column capitals at the entrance feature acanthus leaf decorations. Under the eaves of the second floor, there are also highly decorative carved brackets, evoking the splendor of the Taisho era.
