Accommodation with Open-Air Baths in Every Room Overlooking the Sea - Haifu
Mie Prefecture/Shima CityA peaceful island getaway—an Accommodation where every room features an open-air bath with ocean views.
Toshikojima, a small island floating in an inlet of Ise-Shima, with a circumference of just 7 km. Surrounded by the rich nature of the calm Matoya Bay, which changes its expression with the seasons, this is a place that feels somehow nostalgic, where a gentle breeze carrying the scent of the sea awaits travelers. A 3-minute ferry ride is the prologue to your stay at “Haifu”. All Rooms feature an open-air bath with ocean views. The Onsen is a natural therapeutic hot spring from our own source, and we offer two Facilities with distinct features: a garden open-air bath and an observation bath. For dining, we serve creative Japanese-Western kaiseki cuisine, allowing you to fully savor the seasonal flavors of Ise-Shima, known as “Miketsukuni”. Please enjoy a relaxing and peaceful time.
I travel to Ise-Shima at least once a year. Each time, I look for an Accommodation with a private open-air Onsen bath in the Room. This stay at Haifu was truly wonderful—one of the best I’ve experienced. This time, we stayed in a special suite.First of all, taking a boat to reach the Accommodation really heightened the sense of being on a trip, and I couldn’t stop feeling excited. The Accommodation was beautiful and kept very clean, and the staff were excellent. The Room had an open-air bath with an ocean view. There is also frosted sliding glass that can be used as a privacy screen from outside. Soaking in the Onsen while watching the full moon and stars and listening to the sound of the sea was incredible. We were also able to enjoy our meals slowly in a private dining room. Both the taste and presentation were top-class.Haifu is an Accommodation you’ll definitely want to return to. I hope to stay again soon, and I look forward to visiting again then.
めぐパパ 6/2/2026Having 24-hour access to the open-air bath on the balcony was greatly appreciated, and the large public bath at the neighboring affiliated Ryokan also had a wonderful open-air bath.\nThe sashimi and steak were delicious, but some of the other dishes were a bit underwhelming—maybe it was just my taste. Some items were great, while others were average; it may simply come down to personal preference.\nOverall, it’s a very nice Hotel, and the stars were beautiful—you could even see the Milky Way.\nHighly recommended.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Watakano Island, floating in Ago Bay in Mie Prefecture, offers a gentle, tranquil retreat away from the crowds, where you can still sense its past as a thriving port for ships waiting for favorable winds. A 3-minute ferry ride brings you to the peaceful “Haifu”—welcome. Ise-Shima has long been known as one of Japan’s “Miketsukuni,” regions that supplied ingredients to the Imperial Court and Ise Grand Shrine. At our inn, savor the seasonal flavors of Ise-Shima through our creative Japanese-Western kaiseki cuisine. Every guest room features a private open-air Onsen bath, where you can enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets, as well as starry skies. Perfect for anniversaries and special occasions—enjoy a stay that nourishes both body and mind with carefully crafted dining and high-quality therapeutic hot spring waters.

Ise-Shima has long been known as “Miketsukuni,” a land that once supplied food to the Imperial Court, and its diverse cuisine—nurtured by the blessings of sea and mountains—continues to captivate visitors today. Spiny lobster raised in its rich waters, firm local fish, carefully grown vegetables, and locally brewed sake made with pure water all enhance the region’s culinary appeal. We present the seasonal flavors of Ise-Shima through our creative Japanese-Western kaiseki course cuisine.

From your Room terrace, enjoy the sea breeze and birdsong amid the island’s lush nature. Soak in the open-air bath at a leisurely pace and savor a peaceful moment.\nWe offer Rooms with either beds or futons, so guests traveling with small children or babies can stay with peace of mind. Each Room features a carefully curated Asian-inspired design.

At the garden open-air Onsen “Kazamachi-no-Yu,” we offer a variety of baths with different atmospheres, including an indoor bath, a hinoki cypress bath, a rock bath, a waterfall massage bath, a walking bath, and a reclining bath. In the panoramic large public bath on the top floor, you can also enjoy views of the morning and evening sky from an open and airy setting. We also have private open-air baths and a footbath. Our high-quality Onsen is a sodium–calcium chloride spring that is gentle on the skin and known for its excellent heat-retaining and moisturizing properties. It can be enjoyed not only for bathing but also for drinking, as it is expected to help stimulate digestion as “Onsen for the stomach.”

Our lobby, where you will check in, is filled with thoughtful details. Designed in a tropical Bali style, it harmonizes with the rich nature of Watakano Island and its gently flowing pace of time, creating a space where you can enjoy an extraordinary escape. Enjoy a welcome drink of herbal tea and sweets as you check in.\nPlease relax and enjoy your stay.
