Gotsu City in Shimane Prefecture was once featured in textbooks as “the farthest town” to reach from Tokyo by public transportation. In this place—sometimes a little inconvenient to visit—a Hotel showcasing Shimane’s craftsmanship opened in July 2022. There are only five guest rooms. Every detail is filled with the warmth of handmade work and the passion of skilled artisans. Deep in the mountains, surrounded by untouched nature, enjoy Arifuku Onsen, which has flowed since the time of Prince Shotoku, and spend a relaxing moment you can experience only here.

    We were able to relax in a quiet, calm atmosphere. The nearby bath was also very pleasant.The breakfast portion was just right for seniors like us. The rice was very delicious, but we couldn’t finish it and regretted leaving some.However, since we didn’t include dinner, we had trouble finding a place to eat in the evening. There were restaurants nearby, but many were closed, so we went to Gotsu. We should have checked in advance.

  • Gratitude and Encouragement

    Thank you very much for taking care of us during our 3-day, 2-night stay. I recently read a magazine passage saying that travel is about venturing deep into a place and encountering an essence you can only meet in that moment—I truly agree. It felt restrictive yet somehow freeing; inconvenient, yet we hardly noticed. This Ryokan (deliberately not a Hotel) has a wonderful handmade feel and plenty of room to grow. Arifuku bianco was also delicious. It was a space where we could enjoy even more local sake, wine, and whisky. Of course, visiting the public baths had its own charm as well. Iwami Kagura was powerful and impressive. My rating is slightly strict.

  • Arifuku Onsen Townscape

    [Guest Benefit] Just a 1-minute walk from our Accommodation! Receive complimentary tickets for the public bath.

    We provide all guests staying at our Accommodation with a complimentary “Bihada-no-Yu Arifuku Onsen” public bath ticket (one per person).

    There are three Onsen within about a 1-minute walk from our Accommodation, and we also recommend enjoying an Onsen-hopping experience.
    In each guest room, we provide a bath basket (basket bag) that is convenient for visiting the public baths.
    Simply pack towels, a change of clothes, and amenities in the basket, bring your Onsen ticket, and head out in our comfortable 100% cotton roomwear to easily enjoy the charming atmosphere of Arifuku Onsen.

    [Gozen-yu] 1-minute walk
    A popular retro-modern exterior; the hottest of the three baths with no added water
    ・Hours: 7:00–22:00
    ・Closed: Tuesdays

    [Satsuki-yu] 1-minute walk
    A free-flowing natural hot spring loved by locals, located in the center of the hot spring town
    ・Hours: 10:00–21:00 *On Tuesdays (instead of Gozen-yu): 7:00–22:00
    ・Closed: Thursdays

    [Yayoi-yu] 2-minute walk
    The lowest temperature of the three—ideal for a slow, relaxing soak
