A long-established Ryokan pursuing modern gastronomy while emphasizing local ingredients.

Established during the Edo period, this Onsen Ryokan boasts a history of over 300 years. As one of the few properties holding 'market auction rights,' guests can enjoy safe, seasonal, and fresh local Niigata cuisine.

  • The Facility feels a bit dated, but the Room was spacious (even with a standard Reservation, it had two separate rooms) and very clean. Since the air conditioner’s airflow direction in the Room couldn’t be adjusted, it felt cold if you were sitting where the air hit directly. When making the Reservation, I meant to choose a plan with breakfast and dinner but mistakenly selected breakfast only, so there was no dinner included. However, the staff provided a map and recommended nearby restaurants where we could have dinner. Breakfast was buffet-style, but there were only two start times—7:00 or 8:00—and since seating is rotated at 8:00, you can’t be late. I wish start times could be chosen in 15-minute increments. The made-to-order omelet was delicious. There is an open-air bath, and as it is known as “beauty-skin hot spring,” it left my skin feeling smooth. The torii gate of Yahiko Shrine is very close by, making this Accommodation convenient for visiting the shrine.

  • Because I made the Reservation at the last minute, only a larger Room was available, so I booked that one. It was a bit expensive, but I was satisfied with the Room. The Hotel itself is a little old, but it has been renovated and improved in various ways. The meals were well thought out and I was pleased. I would like to visit again when I have the chance.

Our recommended Niigata local sake

Niigata is renowned for its sake, which is famous across The whole country. Currently, there are about 90 breweries within Niigata Prefecture. Due to its vast area stretching approximately 300 km from north to south, the region's climate and natural features vary slightly depending on the location, resulting in a wide variety of unique sake in Niigata. Moreover, even within the category of sake, there are types that pair well with fish dishes, others that complement meat dishes, and so on, depending on the dining scene. At our facility, we offer around 20 types of sake. Please enjoy tasting them.

Sakeware

Sake utensils from the long-established "Tamagawado" specializing in hammered copperware.

Enjoying sake with this makes it even more delicious.

Meal

Meal

The back of Mt. Yahiko faces the Sea of Japan, with Sado Island visible across the water. Thanks to the Tsushima Current flowing off Sado, this area is blessed with both warm and cold-water seafood delicacies. With a history of 315 years, our Property, Minoya, takes pride in offering the freshest seasonal ingredients—made possible because we are one of the rare accommodations in the prefecture with "market auction rights."
