Niigata Prefecture/Iwamuro Onsen

Experience the waters of Iwamuro Onsen in a captivating open-air bath at a historic Ryokan established during the Meiji era.

A long-established Ryokan founded in the Meiji era. Relax at Iwamuro Onsen’s largest public bath and unwind in the open-air bath. Enjoy seasonal cuisine made with ingredients nurtured by Niigata’s sea and land.

  • We visited on a family trip to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The parking lot in front of the main entrance was full, but we were able to park in the guest-only area as there was space available. The Onsen in the open-air bath was wonderful, and the meals were packed with delicious Niigata dishes and plenty of sashimi, which our whole family enjoyed. Unfortunately, it seemed there was no live piano performance that day, but another guest played beautifully, and we had a lovely time with coffee. We would like to visit again in a different season. All of the staff were very pleasant—thank you very much.

  • From a distance, the exterior looks old and you might think, “Is this the place?”, but the inside has been nicely renovated. The service and hospitality were also very good. The shop in the morning opens late, so I thought I could buy souvenirs the next day, but we left early and ended up not being able to buy anything. We traveled with our dog, and although we couldn’t take our dog to meals, the in-Room crate was spacious. We put our own bed inside it, and perhaps because of travel fatigue, our dog waited quietly. Thanks to that, we were able to relax and enjoy dinner as well as the hot stone spa and baths.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Onsen
Please relax and enjoy your stay at Tatenoyu, Niigata’s only Ryokan featuring both a ganbanyoku (hot stone spa) and natural Onsen.

Iwamuro Onsen, which flourished as a hot spring source area on the Hokkoku Kaido connecting the Hokuriku Expressway and the Nakasendo, and as a place where worshippers to Yahiko Shrine—Echigo’s foremost shrine—would relax after their pilgrimage, is a historic Onsen town rich in tradition, spreading at the northern foot of Mt. Yahiko and along the base of Mt. Taho. Its high-quality Iwamuro Onsen has soothed travelers for generations and continues to be loved today. Founded in the early Meiji era, Hotel Ohashi Tachi-no-Yu is a natural hot spring Accommodation featuring Niigata’s only bedrock bath. The large public bath with an open-air bath, “Tachi-no-Yu,” boasts one of the largest spaces in the Iwamuro, Tsubame-Sanjo, and Yahiko areas.

Arashi no Yu
Ore Mineral Bath “Arashi no Yu” (Hot Stone Sauna)

When Onsen water is poured over 15 types of naturally sourced minerals, warmed to a comfortable temperature and shaped like small pebbles, mineral-rich steam is produced and fills the room. The room temperature is kept at 45°C, making it suitable for seniors, children, women—everyone can enjoy it. Yet it promotes even more perspiration than a 90°C sauna. “Arashi no Yu” is an authentic stone spa where you can expect a range of benefits for beauty, health, and refreshment.
