【National Registered Tangible Cultural Property】 Chitose-ro — A Historic and Beautiful Accommodation Chitose-ro, established in 1764 (Horeki 14), is a long-standing accommodation that has quietly witnessed over 250 years of history. The building features three connected sukiya-style structures from the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods. Every detail reflects the craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibilities of artisans, preserving the essence of Japanese architecture to this day. Renowned cultural figures such as Junichiro Tanizaki and Seiho Takeuchi cherished their stays here, finding inspiration in its serene atmosphere. In 1910 (Meiji 43), Crown Prince Taisho (later Emperor Taisho) visited, and in 1881 (Meiji 14), Prince Arisugawa also stayed at this accommodation. The memories of these distinguished guests linger in the scent of wooden corridors and the soft light filtering through shoji screens. In recognition of its historical and cultural significance, Chitose-ro was registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2014 (Heisei 26). This is not just an "accommodation"—here flows beauty, tranquility, and stories that have captivated people across generations.
