A hot spring Accommodation with just four rooms. Enjoy four private baths and seasonal mountain cuisine.
The Onsen at Umegashima, renowned as Takeda Shingen's hidden retreat, features a Property with four distinct rooms. The four Onsen can be reserved for private use, and meals crafted with local ingredients are served in private dining rooms. Enjoy your time without worrying about your surroundings.
It’s a 1 hour 45 minute trip from the station, and since you can’t miss the one bus, getting there is a bit nerve-racking.\nBut the hot springs are excellent, the food is excellent—everything is top-notch!\nThere are five private baths where you can enjoy free-flowing alkaline simple sulfur Onsen that feels like a beauty serum.\nAnd the cuisine is incredible. Using Shizuoka-certified ingredients, the pairings and cooking methods are creatively arranged, with great care taken so you can enjoy the presentation and textures as well.\nThere are also several carefully selected types of sake to match the dishes—fine dining and Onsen indulgence in the middle of the mountains!\nThank you very much.
About an hour from the nearest interchange, as the riverside scenery narrowed, I kept driving with a mix of anticipation and unease about what kind of secluded Accommodation awaited. The Abe River flows in front of the Accommodation, and on the opposite bank rises a sheer wall of fresh green foliage. My first impression was that it was a slightly larger minshuku, and that didn’t change during check-in and explanations—but I was surprised when shown to my Room. It was almost like a special suite in size: both the living area and bedroom had adjustable air conditioning and lighting, and there were TVs as well. With full-length windows facing the river, the furniture is arranged to let you enjoy the abundant nature, creating a very comfortable space. Even without a large public bath, there are four private baths available for exclusive use. The larger ones are spacious enough for four people across three tubs, and each bath has its own distinct atmosphere to enjoy. The water has a silky texture that feels wonderful—you can truly feel you’re soaking in an Onsen. The nourishing dishes made with many ingredients were delicious; even though they say it’s “a small portion,” it’s more than enough unless you have an especially big appetite. I was satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. It seems to be run mostly by just the couple, but I had no complaints or sense of lacking anything during my stay. I thoroughly enjoyed the nature-rich setting where you can visit waterfalls, along with smooth-skin Onsen baths and excellent food. This is an Accommodation that felt like a perfect match for my tastes, and I’d love to visit again during the autumn foliage season.
