Established in the 6th year of the Taisho era, this onsen property is situated atop a hill and surrounded by 50,000 tsubo of natural forest. With two types of hot spring sources, guests can enjoy a variety of baths with unique atmospheres, such as private open-air baths in the forest or large communal baths offering panoramic views of Sakurajima and Kinko Bay. Take a leisurely stroll along the on-site walking paths to experience the seasons or observe the wild deer that appear in the courtyard.
I first learned about this Accommodation in a travel magazine and had wanted to visit for years. From the moment I made my Reservation, the staff reached out several times with thoughtful messages, which felt truly warm and welcoming. I’m grateful for their kind advice on transportation as well as nearby recommended spots and restaurants. Set on a vast property, the Accommodation offers wonderful views, and I was thrilled to encounter deer while strolling around. The Onsen had excellent water quality, the Facility was well maintained, and I was able to unwind and soothe my fatigue while enjoying the scenery. A local regular I spoke with in the bath said they stay here every month—I couldn’t help but envy them. It was an outstanding Accommodation where both mind and body could fully relax. I would love to visit again. Every staff member was gentle and attentive, and their hospitality made it possible for me to truly feel at ease throughout my stay—each day felt happy. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.
旅の介 7/19/2026This was my second stay. This time, I chose a Room with an open-air bath. Since it’s on the second floor, the view isn’t great, but I was able to soak and relax at my own pace. The open-air bath in the large public bath has an amazing view.The meals were delicious as well. This is an Accommodation I want to return to again and again. I’ll be back!

Two types of Onsen: Simple Onsen and Sulfur Onsen
Ryokan Sanso features two types of hot springs. One is a natural simple spring discovered by the hunter Yokoo Gonta in Bunsei 2 (1819), and the other is a sulfur spring with a floral aroma. The large bathhouse offers a simple spring indoors and a sulfur spring in the open-air bath.
From the Room, you can overlook Sakurajima and Kinko Bay.
The head chef prepares dishes that make the most of seasonal ingredients based on daily supplies.
