Enjoy a “carbonated sodium bicarbonate weak saline spring” you can drink at this Accommodation nestled in the secluded retreat of Harima Himeji.

Kamiyama Ryokan, established in the 7th year of Meiji at Shiota Onsen. The natural onsen with a 300-year history features a self-sourced spring and is drinkable. Enjoy various baths such as hinoki baths, garden baths, and open-air baths. Dinner includes seasonal ingredients from Satsuma and Setouchi seafood, served as kaiseki or charcoal-grilled dishes. Breakfast features the specialty Yutsubo porridge made using the onsen water.

  • This was our second stay. The standout is the drinkable hot spring water—like a salty soda. When you drink it, it feels like it soaks into your whole body and gives you energy. The pork shabu-shabu served with vegetables using the spring water was wonderfully tender, and the famous breakfast rice porridge was also outstanding. We really appreciated how thoroughly local ingredients are used.My husband, who loves a drink, was impressed by how well the selection is curated for people who enjoy alcohol. We also enjoyed the delicious limited-edition beer that can only be had here. The charming, historic atmosphere of the property is soothing as well.Next time, we’d like to visit in autumn when the fiery fall colors are at their peak. Thank you for telling us about a nearby lotus flower spot that’s only open this season—we were able to see truly beautiful scenery.Thank you very much for everything.Meeting Nyan, the cat manager, was also the best!

  • This was a Ryokan that continues to preserve the best of traditional Japanese culture. While many Ryokan these days are becoming more like overseas Hotels, the staff, dressed in happi coats, welcomed us with warm smiles and made us feel truly comfortable. The cuisine was beautifully presented and generously featured locally sourced ingredients, leaving our whole family very satisfied. The bath was surrounded by lovely fresh greenery, and we were able to relax at a leisurely pace. From our Room, we enjoyed a soothing view of greenery and a pond. We would love to return again in a different season.

Autumn leaves

The sacred place of autumn leaves "Kamiyama Ryokan"

With numerous maple trees, the autumn foliage season (around mid-November) showcases breathtaking vibrancy. Additionally, the fresh green leaves of spring (May) are equally beautiful, and during summer, surrounded by lush greenery full of vitality, forest bathing becomes refreshing. Even in the winter sunlight, there is a profound charm to be experienced.
