  • When we arrived at the Accommodation, it was drizzling, but the misty white Lake Shikotsu spread out across the entire view from our Room window, creating a magical scene. Although it was Golden Week, we were still able to see beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom. We were glad we could fully enjoy early spring in Hokkaido.

Lake Shikotsu within the national park

A hidden Onsen Ryokan nestled on the shores of Lake Shikotsu within a national park.

The untouched majestic nature surrounding Lake Shikotsu is truly a hidden gem. The current Lake Shikotsu was formed through repeated volcanic eruptions. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Shikotsu, renowned for being among the best in Japan, reflect light to create a stunning blue glow known as "Lake Shikotsu Blue." Visitors can enjoy various activities and sightseeing opportunities to experience this beautiful nature and environment firsthand. Marukoma Onsen Ryokan operates as an Onsen Ryokan while preserving the pristine natural environment of Lake Shikotsu, refraining from large-scale infrastructure development and sustaining itself with self-sufficient electricity and water.
