With over 300 years of history, this traditional Ryokan is located right in front of the iconic 'Yubatake' of Kusatsu Onsen.

A historic Ryokan in Kusatsu with a legacy dating back to the Edo period. This Ryokan offers natural flowing Onsen from two rare sources within Kusatsu Onsen: "Yubatake-mae Shirahata Source" and "Shirane-san Bandaiko Source." Its prime location right in front of Yubatake, the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen, is another highlight. Enjoy your journey in Kusatsu surrounded by the scent of sulfur and rising steam.

  • We stayed here a few years ago and loved it, so we returned for a group trip to celebrate our 60th birthdays. With a Room overlooking the Yubatake, high-quality Onsen baths, and delicious meals, our friends were very satisfied and it became a wonderful trip. The large public bath was outstanding as expected, but we were also impressed by how well stocked the amenities corner in the changing area was. They even had face sheet masks. We wanted to take our time with dinner this time, so we chose the dining venue “Kimi no Roman.” The food was delicious, and we also enjoyed learning about the ingredients thanks to the staff’s thoughtful explanations. Breakfast was buffet-style. There were many creative dishes featuring local ingredients, and everything was excellent. We felt that even if we had chosen the dinner buffet, we would have been satisfied.Since we needed to go to an annex building for the large public bath and breakfast, we walked back and forth along the connecting corridor. The furnishings and Facilities were polished to a shine, with beautiful ikebana displays throughout. There were also impressive arrangements in the large public bath area itself, giving a sense of refinement that only a long-established Accommodation can offer. All staff members were kind; when we asked for photos, they even took them from atop a step ladder so they could include the Yubatake in the shot. This is an excellent Accommodation with attentive hospitality in every detail—both in its services and its upkeep. The souvenir shop on the first floor is large with an extensive selection, so you can find everything there. They also have a corner featuring Asama Shuzo (my favorite), where I was able to buy various items. Guests who spend 2,500 yen or more receive delicious cookies.

  • Worried about the typhoon, we decided to go at the last minute and found that there was just one Room available. There was a note saying that you might hear noise from an outdoor unit, but it didn’t bother us at all. The dining area on the top floor and the bath were also in the same annex building, so getting around was very convenient. My husband requested a foot massage from the bodywork therapist and said it felt amazing. I hesitated because the therapist was male, so I asked for an in-Room massage by a female therapist instead, but it wasn’t great. If we stay again, I’d like to book with the bodywork therapist. There was more than enough food and we were generally satisfied. However, some of the tempura batter was slightly undercooked so we removed it before eating, and some desserts ran out later in the evening—so if you want dessert, I recommend securing it early.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Exterior

The closest Hotel to Yubatake.

Hotel Ichii is located right in front of Yubatake, the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen. The hotel consists of two buildings: the Main Building and the Annex. Among them, only 20 rooms in the Main Building offer views of Yubatake, making these rooms the most popular choice. Famous Hostess
Famous Landlady

If you are not out for business or other activities, our renowned hostess will personally welcome and see you off. She may also make a surprise appearance during dinner to greet guests. During the day after check-out, she arranges seasonal flowers throughout the property, making it a delight to explore our spacious premises. Why not come and meet our famous hostess?

Open-air Bath

Open-air Bath "Sekitei": A Japanese-style garden-inspired open-air bath.

Our open-air Onsen features a hexagonal roof in a gazebo style, surrounded by a quaint garden-like setting. The source of the water is the "Bandai-Ko Spring," known as the hottest, most acidic, and mineral-rich spring in Kusatsu Onsen. Due to its extremely high temperature at the time of emergence, hydrogen sulfide gas cannot dissolve into the water, making it a rare type of Kusatsu Onsen with no sulfur scent.
