Image of Tekkousen Honkan

Established in Meiji 37, Property Tetsukosen Honkan in Nakasendo Shimosuwa.

In the Edo period, at the junction of the Nakasendo and Koshu Kaido roads, there was an inn called "Tsutaya" in Shimosuwa-juku. This historic inn was passed down, and in 1904 (Meiji 37), the Tekkosen Main Property was established. As a town in front of Suwa Taisha Shrine and the only Onsen town along the Nakasendo, it welcomed many travelers. Moreover, throughout the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras, it also hosted the people of Suwa, a region flourishing in silk production and precision industries. The voices of travelers relaxing in the Onsen and savoring the cuisine, the sound of clogs from slightly tipsy gentlemen, the music of shamisen played by geisha, and the scent of face powder—many layers of history are still etched into the Property today.
