A wonderful accommodation. Perfect for when you want to relax.
あ.すぎもと 1/27/2026The staff were very kind and provided heartfelt service. The accommodation along the mountain stream was very comfortable, and the Taisho-era architecture and furnishings were wonderful. I would definitely like to stay here again.

Introduction of the Accommodation

A 100-year-old high-rise building showcasing masterful craftsmanship
Kansuirou is a rare wooden high-rise building constructed during the Taisho era and is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. It features a grand hall made of ancient cedar, built using the unique "Soumotase" method, which does not rely on central pillars. The existence of this four-story wooden high-rise structure is considered miraculous and is renowned as a cultural property that attracts the attention of many architects and craftsmen.

Kansuiro, an accommodation favored by numerous cultural figures and politicians both domestically and internationally. From Princess Kazunomiya, Tenshoin, and Hirobumi Ito to literary greats such as Natsume Soseki and Shimazaki Toson, the history of Kansuiro is intertwined with those who cherished this place. The Taisho-era romantic ambiance within the facility and the literary artifacts displayed throughout convey the essence of its storied past to the present day.

Onsen & Bath
Motoyu Kansuiro is a historic Onsen accommodation that first opened in 1614 (Keicho 19) as a therapeutic hot spring in Hakone Tonosawa. Specialists known as "Yuban" manage the Onsen daily, adjusting the water temperature according to the source's heat and ambient temperature to ensure guests enjoy a comfortable and relaxing flow of natural hot spring water.

As our facility is a historic building, most rooms do not have the same layout. From traditional-style rooms featuring abundant use of precious wood to rooms with open-air baths, we take pride in offering uniquely crafted spaces that showcase the skill and dedication of artisans.

Our cuisine features monthly kaiseki-style dishes, abundantly using the blessings of Hakone's mountains and the seafood from Sagami Bay and Odawara. Enjoy a variety of seasonal flavors that capture the essence of Hakone.
