Tochigi Prefecture/Kinugawa OnsenEnjoy the wild beauty of the Kinugawa Gorge and the soothing Onsen atmosphere at an Accommodation nestled along the river.
A tranquil property with a stunning view of the beautiful valley, just a 5-minute walk from the station. Enjoy the soft and gentle hot spring water of Kinugawa in the spacious open-air bath and the charming indoor bath.
On my way back from a business trip to Tokyo, I planned a visit to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which I had long wanted to see. I stayed one night at an Accommodation in Kinugawa Onsen. I chose it after searching with conditions such as having an in-Room Onsen bath and being reasonably priced. The lobby was well maintained, and the hallways were very clean as well. Our Room had an Onsen bath and two separate rooms, so my wife went to the large public bath while I enjoyed the in-Room bath. The meals were very delicious, and the portions were just right—slightly on the generous side.It was a quiet Accommodation where I could relax in the Onsen, which was wonderful. Many of the staff seemed to be from overseas, but everyone was polite and courteous. One thing that concerned me was that when I opened the window by the in-Room bath, there were quite a few spider webs. Also, insects gathered on the window at night so we couldn’t open it; I thought that if there had been a screen door or similar, we could have opened it. If I have another chance to visit nearby, I would like to stay again.
明智でござる 7/22/2026Upon arrival, several staff members greeted us with warm smiles. Many of the staff were from overseas, but everyone was attentive and kind. The Room was spacious, and looking down we could see the Kinugawa River flowing below. Lush greenery spread out right in front of us, and although it was unfortunately raining, we were able to enjoy a truly magical view. The open-air bath was spotless and well maintained, and the scenery—surrounded by nature—made it a wonderful, relaxing space. At dinner, the proprietress came to greet us, and each course was served at just the right pace. At breakfast, I even had seconds of rice.On our way out, they gave us a pair of chopsticks for couples and discreetly attached a “drive safely” charm to our car key—thoughtful touches that moved us until the very end.We would love to visit again if we have the chance, and I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Introduction of the Accommodation

The picturesque view of the Kinugawa Onsen Gorge spreading along the valley.
The scenic view of the Kinugawa Onsen Gorge stretching along the valley.

Previously operated as "Tanigawa Hotel," in 1999, we renamed our Property to "Shizuka to Magokoro no Yado Nanae Yae" and made a fresh start. It all began with the first proprietress, Tsuyo Suzuki, who was deeply moved by the breathtaking views. Although the Property was initially far from the station, a station relocation now places us in a fortunate location just a 5-minute walk away. Our meals are adorned with ingredients brimming with the blessings of the mountains and rivers. Our spirit is encapsulated in the phrase, "The sights are in Nikko, the sincerity is in Nanae Yae." All of our staff are dedicated to making your travels and relaxation truly memorable.

Room
A standard Room with a spacious veranda facing the valley. A Japanese-style room with a wooden theme, popular among guests of all ages.

Discovered during the Edo period, Kinugawa Onsen is a historic hot spring that was once exclusively accessible to feudal lords and monks on pilgrimage to Nikko. It has long been known as "Kawaji for wounds, Taki (Kinugawa) for burns," representing one of Kanto's renowned hot springs.

Savor the flavors meticulously crafted by our head chef specializing in Japanese cuisine, ensuring your meal becomes a memorable part of your journey.
